Incumbents Start Another Round in South Chicago Heights

Trustees welcome back three of their own with coffee, cake and some official business.

The Village celebrated the swearing-in of three trustees with coffee and cake immediately following the May 2 Board of Trustees meeting.

Araceli “Sally” Marrufo, Eugene Fazzini and Patrick DeFiore, all incumbents and all of whom were re-elected to four-year terms, took the oath of office during the meeting.

Marrufo was first appointed to the board in 2004 and won her first four-year term three years later. She currently serves as the Village Board’s liaison to the South Chicago Heights Youth and Senior Recreational Department.

Fazzini was appointed to the Board of Trustees in 2008. He is an ex-South Chicago Heights police officer and also served in the fire department. DeFiore was first elected to the board in 1999, winning his second and third terms in 2003 and 2007 respectively. He is the Board liaison to the Finance Department and is a former member of the South Chicago Heights Zoning Board.

Also at Monday’s meeting, the Board approved business and liquor licenses for two new establishments. A Class A liquor license was approved for Three Monkeys, 2831 Chicago Road, and the Meha Corporation, 3300 Chicago Road, was granted a Class C liquor license.

Marrufo voted against both licenses and DeFiore said under different circumstances he would have done the same. “I would have voted no, but we need the sales tax,” he said.
