Jackson Jr. Charged with Federal Crimes

The former 2nd District Congressman was charged with conspiracy, making false statements and two separate counts of fraud. Jackson used campaign funds to purchase mink cashmere capes and Michael Jackson memorabilia, Sun-Times Media reports.

Ex-2nd District Congressman Jesse Jackson Jr. might face up to 57 months in prison after he was criminally charged Friday with spending $750,000 of his campaign funds for personal use, Sun-Times Media reports.

To be exact, the defamed former representative was charged with the following, according to the Sun-Times:

  • Conspiracy
  • Making False Statements
  • Mail Fraud
  • Wire Fraud

The Sun-Times also lists the following items as allegedly purchased with misspent campaign dollars:

  • $43,350—Rolex watch (gold-plated)
  • $10,000—Children's furniture
  • $5,595—Martin Luther King Jr. memorabilia
  • $2,955—Bruce Lee memorabilia
  • $5,000—Football signed by various former presidents.
  • $20,000—Michael Jackson memorabilia
  • $?—Mink cashmere capes and parkas

“I can’t comment on any of (those purchases),” Jesse Jackson Sr. told the Sun-Times. “I could not and should not. I don’t know enough about it. We’re close enough to remain prayerful and supportive. But, I don’t know anything about the legal details.”

Daddy shook down Bud Weiser for a distributorship, Jr. shook down the voters for excess crap.

Unfortunately, this is becoming the norm for elected officials in Illinois. "What can I do to serve myself and my friends" is asked more than "what can I do to serve my community". Let's not forget that the majority of voters in this district voted him back into office even though he was under investigation for fraud and misappropriating funds. So he DOES represent his district? Pretty sad
