Carolyn what has the Mayor done for the City?
jason amos July 30, 2012 at 04:30 PM
Mayor, how many people bid the fireworks display this year?If so who are they? Also how much did they cost the taxpayers total?Clean up,helicopter, signs, bands, extra police presence? Isn't the City broke?
Winston Wolf July 30, 2012 at 05:47 PM
The City is not broke. It is obviously operating, and has a balanced budget.
jason amos July 30, 2012 at 06:35 PM
Winston Wolf July 30, 2012 at 07:29 PM
As usual, Mr. Amos is not very informed on the matter. The holiday celebration was obviously a part of the balanced budget that Mayor Gonzalez and Treasurer Dee created.

What does the mayor plan to do about all of the undocumented students attending the school district? This is a drain on resources. Everything my child brings home from school is spanish on one side and english on the other. Why are we not allowed to ask for proof of citizenship when enrolling a child in school? So many of these parents can't even speak English and get free lunch, free transportation, literature in Spanish, preferential treatment. It's not fair when I am paying $6,000 a year in property taxes while there are 2-3 families living illegally in one house and sending their children to our neighborhood schools.
Winston Wolf July 31, 2012 at 01:29 AM
What would the mayor of Chicago Heights be able to do about illegal immigrants at the schools? The school district is separate from the city.
Winston Wolf July 31, 2012 at 01:33 AM
I simply can't wait for this interview! I feel like a kid on Christmas Eve.
robin n steelin July 31, 2012 at 02:55 AM
what I want to know is why that money spent on fireworks, parks ( I wouldn't allow my kid to play at), festivals, parades, empty plazas, ect isn't spent on fighting the high crime in the area? why didn't we get a quiet zone from cn railroad? Do the surveilance cameras around the city even work? why so many liquor stores, and one other type of restaraunt, we have hardly any real, modern, chain type restaraunts or shopping?
concerned July 31, 2012 at 05:04 AM
i do agree with you, I have been here 19yrs. I have not seen any work since I have been here. They get your vote, from the white house to springfield, for what? Its a joke. They only have their own interest. You attend the meetings, you ask questions? You get no answers, They come in thanking all the departments for what has been done for them personally. The few famiiles that are fortunate to still pay property taxes, we get nothing, How does one become eligible for section 8? Quite a few officials have these properties, they would not live next to them, that is where the trash comes from, it blows all over the city, I watched the street cleaner come down my street, after calling, all the garbage remains just where he swept. one more thing, did you notice when an elected offficial is elected he brings most of the same people that he ran against with him. How is anything going to change
concerned July 31, 2012 at 05:14 AM
Concerned have you not noticed? our officicals love a party, that is the theme Party party. Payday loans, eateries, crime, Mayor Gonzales can't wait until that time so that I can vote for one of your friends and things will continue as usual. People wake up and take your country back, You have been sleep for 50 years, Broke why is it that so many are not broke again from the White house to Springfield, folks we've been had we've been Hoodwinked you do know the hood that I refer too. Wake up people.
Winston Wolf July 31, 2012 at 02:32 PM
The Fourth of July celebration brings a sense of community to the city. It is a longstanding tradition, and you don't end something like that just to save money. I wonder where all these haters were last year, when it was time to stand up and put forward a plan for the future. David Gonzalez did that, and the voters rewarded him! Too many people sit on the sidelines and complain. THAT is what's really wrong in Chicago Heights.
jason amos July 31, 2012 at 03:15 PM
What's wrong with this city is that politics take advantage of everything. The whole State from Madigans corrupt A--,to smaller town like ours but they know how to minipulate the system. Like Mark Suppelsa's 1 hour special on Pension Reform last night, perfect example of why our taxs are the way they are!I would love to see an investigation in this Town maybe it will prove me wrong but doubtful Winston keep riding the train it soon will derail.
Fed UP July 31, 2012 at 04:44 PM
Winston, does the school district receive money from the City of Chicago Heights? Is the school located in Chicago Heights? Do our tax dollars paid to the City of Chicago Heights help support the Chicago Heights School districts? How about I change the question to "What does he plan to do about the illegal immigrants living, driving and attending school illegally in Chicago Heights?" Is that better? Or are you now going to tell me that the City has nothing to do with the people living in the city legally or illegally? I for one am tired of my tax dollars supporting people who are living in our city illegally. Maybe he won't do anything against his own people so they feel pretty safe here.
SharonC July 31, 2012 at 05:00 PM
well if your going by tradition for the 4th of July....your doing it all wrong....like i said..been here my whole life..51 yrs...when i was younger...4th of July was a big weekend festival...carnival...parade...fireworks...etc....why dont we have that now? i'll answer that for ya...cuz we have NO CONTROL in this town on gangs...drugs...prostituting...etc...those are just to name a few...its a shame my uncle is almost 80 yrs old and has also lived here his whole life...worked his whole life...live in the same house...and now he has to install a home alarm system...he cant even sit on his own front porch without worrying about getting shot at.....i will keep saying this...these are all ??? that have been getting asked about for yrs...and still NO RESULTS to better our town....u know when i was younger...the mayor and politics that ran chgo hts might of been crooked...(which ones arnt)..but at least i could sleep with my doors open...kids could play in thier own front yards...we had businesses...stores...resturants...etc....you felt safe...and yes they took care of the needy...without turning our town into a pigs pen....now can someone explain to me why we dont have that no more??????? Look at all the towns around us...homewood for one...our neighboring town...look at the difference....plzzzz explain why its so different...i would love to hear the answer....and further the answer with actions...THIS TOWN IS ALL TALK...AND NO ACTION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
SharonC July 31, 2012 at 05:55 PM

DOES ANYONE CARE???? NOOOO....what are we all taught or have heard in our lifetimes...."ACTIONS SPEAK LOUDER THAN WORDS!!!!!! There was an artile not to long ago about what we would like to see where the old beer barn was.(red barn)....the old ace hardware...everyone gave great ideas...chain stores....resturants...etc...the problem is..."who would want to open thier business in this town???" are you serious?? thats why i say all these articles are a joke...until someone steps up to the plate and gets at least a cpl major businesses to open here...were doomed...were building a park next to the library...why??? next to a major intersection...whoes einstien idea was that? all i know is when ppl speak of other towns..homewood for one...all you hear is..watch it in that town...they dont play!!! hmmm..now y is that?
SharonC July 31, 2012 at 06:38 PM

Belinda July 31, 2012 at 06:41 PM
Fed Up Just because the paper come in Spanish does not mean that the student are undocumented. My parents speak English, but not fluently and prefer to have papers written in Spanish yet, we are all LEGAL citizens. And if you didn't know the laws it's not a Chicago Heights Law it's part of the constitution as well. And these families are also paying taxes when they buy the home and if it's multiple families living in one house then call code enforcement. And what does getting free lunch or bus access have anything to do with not speaking English? Just because someone does not speak a language 100 percent correctly does not mean that they are not contributing to taxes and if they live in the district they have a legal right to atted the schools and trust me being an educator in District 170 I know first hand that it's not our Spanish speaking students making our district have low test scores attend the board meetings.
SharonC July 31, 2012 at 06:42 PM
Im not Carolyn..but i'll answer it for you...NOTHING!!!! Everyone that gets in office these days is only for recognition...its not for our town...and let me clear this up before anyone starts...I DONT CARE WHAT RACE, COLOR ETC YOUR ARE...AS LONG AS YOUR DOING SOMTHING TO BETTER OUR TOWN...IM WITH YOU ALL THE WAY!!!! But unfortuntly it hasent happend yet!!!!
SharonC July 31, 2012 at 06:50 PM
a kid on christmas eve?? your in the wrong town for that...thiers no macys in this town!!!! Try salavation army..thats are clothes stores in this town..smh...point being made...macys vs salvation army will be the answers you get at your interview... and you stated the mayor cant do nothing about the school system and illegal immigrants...but he can check it out in our town cant he???? so maybe if that was done to begin with...we wouldnt have the problem in our schools..or town...once again...job NOT well done to begin with!!!!
Fed UP July 31, 2012 at 07:20 PM
Belinda, I said ILLEGAL! Not legal and paying taxes, not legal and attending school. I said ILLEGAL. And yes I attend meetings, I register my children in school and a majority of the parents don't speak English AT ALL. The kids have to translate for them. Its wonderful that you and your parents are LEGAL but I am asking about the ILLEGAL ones. ILLEGAL not LEGAL. I like many people don't feel its fair that people who are here illegally reap the benefits of being illegal. See, I said ILLEGAL not LEGAL. And your comment about the spanish speaking children not being the ones bringing down the test scores, well who is bringing down the scores? Oh, the non spanish speaking children right?
SharonC July 31, 2012 at 07:25 PM
ok i think this will be my last comment...The whole structual idea for this from my view ALL THESE 51 YRS.... we had a great town...businesses..stores..resturants..schools...etc....Our town took a loss when they were caught obviously...so the next guy to sit in the hot seat didnt follow through with keeping our town the way it was...it was to much for him...so they started leaning towards government funds to keep us going...thats guranteed $$$$....now we have all these ppl that have loved and lived in this town suffering over someone not doing thier job yrs ago...so will i blame the present mayor...no not for all of it...but no one asked you to be mayor...you chose that...with that being said..you hear with your own ears...and see with your own eyes whats goin on in this town...do you really need us to ask you ??? this town has turned into a government funded community and everyone knows it...like i said guaranteed $$$$...so ppl that are hear paying thier taxes...etcc...have to live with this why??? so lets quit playing the guessing game with this town...its plain and clear to see..and everyone does...if you wanna sit in the big boy seat and be mayor...do it for the right reasons is all im saying...or dont sit at all...i would love to go to all these fest i go to...trust me no where near chgo hts,,,and when speaking with ppl they ask.."where are u from" my answer...south suburbs...around homewood...im to ashamed to admit im from chicago heights...now how pathectic is that!!
Denice July 31, 2012 at 10:25 PM
SharonC, like you I don't admit to living in Chicago Heights. Its just plain embarrassing. When asked I say that I live far south near Olympia Fields. The old Chicago Heights that you described in your earlier post sounds idyllic. A few of my neighbors have told me about how wonderful Chicago Heights used to be, and how proud they were to live here. I've only lived here for 15 years or so, but I do so the skeletal remains of old Chicago Heights when I'm brave enough to drive along Halsted. To be frank the far south side area of Chicago where I formerly lived was a lot safer---and cleaner than Chicago Heights. That area was more like Bedford Falls (the town in It's A Wonderful Life) than Chicago Heights.
Denice July 31, 2012 at 10:26 PM
typo....I meant to say..." but I do see the skeletal remains of old Chicago Heights ...."
Denice July 31, 2012 at 10:31 PM
One last comment regarding the schools and the library being seperate from the city and the city's tax dollars. If that is true why do I always see the Chicago Heights police acting as security guards in the library? For that matter, why do see them acting as security at Ultra Foods?
SharonC July 31, 2012 at 11:00 PM
Oh Denice...this town was hoppin at 1 time...yrs ago they were selling these book s..history of chicago heights...they were limited..but im glad i got um..i show my kids and grandkids what used to be...there in shock...from than to now...its just terrible how this town is so run down...and im sure some ppl say...well if u dont like it...move...why should i move..i paid for my house..i paid my taxes..etc...why dont u move the crap outta this town is my ??? and dont get me wrong...i give all honors to our police officers...but u have real ones..and robo cops...(the wanna be's)...unfortuntly same as the town...thier not what they used to be..we have more robocops than real police officers that are there to do there job...i have many old timers that were officers..and some good ones left on the force...and trust me...the ppl know who they are...but unfortuntly thier might be a handful if that left of them...and as far as securtiy...lol..omg..i def wont mention NO NAMES...but i know someone that worked at marcus theater for yrs...yea chpd secured them alright...while cars are getting broke into..fights breaking out...the security/chpd was in one of the movies theaters watching the movie...by time the manager would locate him it was to late....now i would say if chpd is securing this place...why did this take place? if the word gets spread...they wont try it...back in the day if this would of happend...chiif of police would of investigated it and bye bye officer..you are replacable
SharonC July 31, 2012 at 11:22 PM
its pretty sad when you can drive down halsted st...and right down the street from the chicago hts police dept and in front across the street..you see ppl just hangin out with shopping carts full of stuff, drugs being exchanged..drunks all over.....if anything thats the part of town that should look its best to represent our pd...the buildings are shambles..it looks terrible...now go the oppisite way on halsted towards glenwood/homewood...i guarantee you...you will see an officer stopped with his lights on nonstop...go through the hts...not gonna happen...if we had the reputation that are officers have a zero tolerance...alot of this would stop...i truely believe it...like i said..to many robo cops on the force...again i respect you for taking the job..but you chose it..not us..now follow through with it is all were asking...if WORD gets around are officers have a zero tolerance would be nice...if you mention chpd to anyone...they laugh...i have officers in other towns too..and u know all towns compare and talk...chpd is the joke of um all...this is how pathetic it is...an officer..not from our town..WONT MENTION NAMES....was with a cpl other officers laughing thier butts off about chpd is so poor they dont even have chairs for ppl to sit on in thier lobby...thats embarassing....all i can say is this whole article about what to ask the mayor is useless to me...we all have eyes and ears...including the mayor...need i say more???? MAKE OUR TOWN A WHOLE AGAIN PLZZZZZ!!!!!!
Diane Young August 03, 2012 at 03:38 PM
i am new to this media outlet. However I would like to ask the Mayor when is he going to do all the things he claimed he was going to do before being elected. You put on a good show mayor while running for office. Even the officials you had on your ticket. I can never speak with my alderperson. When are you people going to stop playing all this pussy politics?
Belinda August 16, 2012 at 05:41 AM
What is being done about all the hookers on Chicago Road?
