Mayor Gonzalez Happy to Remain in Jesse Jackson Jr.'s District

The congressman's district grew significantly in last week's remapping, approved by Gov. Pat Quinn.

When last week's new congressional dividing lines were agreed upon, some towns in the South Suburbs found out they would have new congressmen.

Tinley Park is now divided up amongst , and Orland Park and Orland Hills .

But Chicago Heights went unchanged, . Mayor David Gonzalez said he's satisfied with where the Heights ended up.

"We're very happy that we stayed in his district," Gonzalez said. "We were just hoping we weren't going to lose our congressman."

The mayor said he and Jackson share many of the same priorities.

"He's done a lot for us," Gonzalez added. "Pushing for economic development, fighting for the Peotone Airport, he's proven he has our best interests at heart."

Jackson's district was expanded to include Kankakee, as well as Peotone, the site of the proposed South Suburban airport Jackson wholeheartedly supports.
