Post Questions for the 2nd District Congressional Candidates

In much the same way we executed the Minutes with the Mayor series on Chicago Heights Patch and Homewood-Flossmoor Patch, we're planning to ask the candidate questions from their potential constituents.

The race for the Illinois Second District Congressional seat is arguably one of the most important races of the year for those of us who live in the district.

With Election Day just two months away (sooner for you early voters) it's becoming increasingly important to know more about these candidates and their plans.

Incumbent Jesse Jackson Jr. has had a rough year to say the least, and his opponents, Brian Woodworth and Marcus Lewis, are looking to unseat a man who has held the same spot for nearly 18 years.

Over the past two months we've heard plenty of comments on Jackson's health, but we have not heard much about the candidates' platforms and plans. What makes these three so different from each other? Are any of them deserving of federal elected office? If so, who will do the most for the district?

In order to make your decision at the polls just a little easier, we'll be reaching out to all three candidates to have them answer your questions. So ask away!

Post questions in the comments that all three candidates can answer. After we've racked up enough questions, we will conduct a poll to determine the top questions and relay them to the candidates in an interview.

The despicable way Jr sent his Indian emissary to tell the over his head Governor anything he wanted to hear knowing fully it was a lie like everything he did since being appointed to congress by the GOP ZIONISTS and daddy's Corporate operatives.yep he is as CORPORATE as any OIL OR BAIN EXEC. Blago and Jr are by products of separate SMELL (Mell) and Push organization both of them are or were on the public payroll by nepotism not because they have outstanding charismatic abilities or are good in memorizing, they are as transparent as the Cheney's without a brain it is amazing the son of a preacher who never had a job in his life except extorting from enemies and friends has accumulated so much stash in his So Side HQ. Blago is doing country club time for a long time and Jr is hiding out from the ethics cmtee. away from the other mentals shooting at and on school buses and drive by's and will be reelected by the mama's and the dead beat dad's alike, god wants them to vote for Jr so forget the honesty and clean government stuff.

BUTCH September 14, 2012 at 12:35 AM
is it possible SR and SANDI could have bribed Marcus with $ 100,000 Iif this were a Christian nation with fewer mental institutions? What the SOUTH white Liberty U and other tea Evangelicals have contributed to the modern economy and gusto gutter aka Drug culture are the Elmer Gentry's like the Fla moron burning the Koran to insure more Murkans are killed by equally nutty misfit Muslims and also from Dixie the Black celebrity preachers who are adept at rhetoric and extortion at the highest level who thrive on decay of while our own and many of their are just old fashioned predators. the new age of modern religion is u are either a extortionist and celebrity or a TV T party evangelical they both need the pimpology and gusto and hi rates of HIV and STD in the schools in abandoned rust belt neighborhoods now bare of stores as well as manufacturing and a great breeding ground for bare chested thugs with in low baggy pants smokin their blunts and shooting innocents and enemies alike these wannabe free loaders do not want the perks in goburment they want to be able to bribe other wannabe's and be celebrity preachers

A Mormon Bishop missionary victory wait to u are told what else they believe! would insure there is nowhere in the Oil world outside of Canada and the North sea for Exxon and BP and the usual suspects to put up a platform even Cheney would be in trouble with all the nut cases setting fires to embassies and in installations unless he is on the side of? And that my friends includes our own brand of whack doodles like the wing nut from Fla burning the Koran the founders had it right on theses fundy's if we only throw the Preachers out it is a start.

Questions for all candidates (even though Lewis is the only one answering them): 1.) Do you support a Balanced Budget Amendment to the U.S. Constitution? If not, why not? If so, how will you get us there? 2.) What types of bills/projects will you work to pass to get Americans back to work? 3.) Do you support drug testing for welfare candidates or recipients? 4.) The U.S. is becoming more of a service country rather than a manufacturing country. However, it is well known that manufacturing is what made this country what it is today. What incentives/programs/negotiations will you offer to corporations sending manufacturing jobs overseas to bring them back? 5.) Do you support or oppose firearm registration? Why? 6.) Do you feel there should be campaign fundraising caps? Why or why not?
BUTCH September 17, 2012 at 07:57 PM
As a write in for everything candidate I will address the issues Balanced Budget audit the Pentagon and cut tax exempt status to store front and other do nothing churches no need to go further 2 As soon as the TPARTY DECIDES THEY ARE NOT GOING TO CONTINUE TO ANNIALATE SOCIETY and RETURN TO WORK THEY ARE GETTING PAID TO WORK THE PRESIDENT HAD A JOBS and TRANS BILL that would have turned the corner on the depression but the scumbags never brought it up nor can anyone running from this Dist do anything about it 3 DRUG test anyone on CLEAR CHANNEL or FOX and friends they are getting as much welfare and freebies as any OXY DRUGSTER CONTINUED
BUTCH September 17, 2012 at 08:14 PM
The brass STONES Mormon missionary is accusing the Pres of sending jobs to his and the Bush family partners in CHINA get a grip do u think any of these candidates have a clue on MACAU or what BUSHEVIK-BAINIZATION and the Cheney buddies on the supreme court have done to our economy since ROSS PEROT warned us about the sound of jobs leaving after NAFTA? Any candidate not on the CORPORATE payroll would campaign to enforce every trade bill or revoke them but do not expect any profiles of courage coming from these clown they count on u KNOW INFORMATION voters FIREARM legislation requires common sense and courage again what a concept CAPS CITIZENS UNITED and ALL THE WING NUT SUPERPACS WOULD BE OUT OF BIZNESS DO U THINK THESE CLOWNS RUNNING FOR 2nd DIST WANT THAT they show their contempt for anyone reading these blogs by hiding out in DC or wherever, forget the softball questions ask them real questions that they can actually accomplish as a represenative in the peoples house?
BUTCH September 20, 2012 at 12:23 AM
now we know it is very costly to have a mental issue, if his condition needs more resources how do the rest of us who do not 2. 5 million as a second home have a chance? the other questions how should we also look at all candidates for public office how did this cream puff get millions of dollars with a job? LET'S SEE HIS TAX RETURNS and MARCUS AND ALL THE WANNABE'S! I will show u mine when they show u theirs I am a real life 47% unlike JR-GENERAL ELECTRIC BOEING and EXXON who the TPARTY COURT said are people too.
BUTCH September 20, 2012 at 12:24 AM

Mike Tucker September 21, 2012 at 05:38 PM
I want to know what are any of these candidates doing for the people in their district that will be losing their jobs due to Governor Quinns closures of prisons. And what are their stances on pension reform!
David Quimby September 21, 2012 at 09:37 PM
Please check out Brian Woodworth at facebook.com/woodworthforcongress Feel free to ask questions on his page and we will make sure to respond promptly.
BUTCH September 21, 2012 at 10:29 PM
what is wrong with responding here a lot of voters do not want or trust facebook twitter and the social media for good reasons
James Taylor September 21, 2012 at 10:47 PM
Did Brian Woodworth use students at Olivet Nazarene University to get names on his initial petition and is that a violation of the Federal Election Laws? Why is Brian Woodworth no longer a professor at Olivet Nazarene University"?
James Taylor September 21, 2012 at 10:51 PM
Why has the Chicago Tribune failed to include Independent candidate Marcus Lewis in it's news accounts and why is the Politics Now program featuring Brian Woodworth and not allowing Lewis equal time. After all, should not all candidates get equal time to present their agendas? Is the exclusion of Lewis connected to the fact that the Tribune endorsed Brian Woodworth and how many African Americans are a part of the Tribune Editorial Board?
Maureen "Moe" Forte' September 22, 2012 at 01:09 AM
My questions to all the candidates ~ 1. How do you feel about the same term limits for Congress like they have for the President? 2. What programs can be put into placed to help educate the ex-offenders so they can be re-entered into society with some form of employment? 3. Where do we go from here if the airport never happens? I had the pleasure of sitting in on an interview for Comcast Cable with my media partner as we interviewed Candidate Brian Woodworth. Great interview! We have reached out to all but no response. I commend James Taylor and his Newspaper for great coverage. Rev. Anthony Williams is running as a write in and it is possible to win as a write in. I won in 1996 as a write in for the library district. If all fails, call for a Special Election and Elect a Woman! Me!!

I believe the premise here is getting lost: Post questions in the comments that all three candidates can answer. After we've racked up enough questions, we will conduct a poll to determine the top questions and relay them to the candidates in an interview.

OK, Mr Lewis----I cant imagine voting for someone who cant even understand the premise that this was a place for citizens to post questions for the patch editors to pose to all three candidates so that the citizens could compare their answers side by side and get some idea of why to vote of not vote for each. You have turned this into a melee with all you posts where they are inappropriate.
NotBuyingIt September 22, 2012 at 11:24 PM
WTF???? If a white man asked that of a black candidate he would be labeled as a racist in a second.... And you know what, that IS a racist question!!! Are you basing his qualifications on the color of his skin????? You have to get past skin color James...
NotBuyingIt September 23, 2012 at 02:51 AM
James Taylor, you are the one with a garbage can for a mouth. Why should a white person in a predominantly white country vote for a black candidate when there are many perfectly good white candidates to chose from??? C'mon son!!! Can't you hear yourself??? You posed a racist question!!! If you flip it like I did above, you should be able to see that!!! Why are you trashing Chester for pointing out your racism??
NotBuyingIt September 23, 2012 at 03:03 AM
Lewis is not a credible candidate. You would know that if you read any of his posts. He is a buffoon. The fact that he is black seems to be the only qualification that you care about.
Marcus Lewis September 23, 2012 at 09:25 AM
This is an interesting thought. Many people wonder why Republican legislators are so hard on President Obama and also Republican voters here on Patch on Marcus Lewis who is running for Congress. . Frederick Douglass gave us the answer many years ago: “Though the colored man is no longer subject to barter and sale, he is surrounded by an adverse settlement which fetters all his movements.” “In his downward course he meets with no resistance, but his course upward is resented and resisted at every step of his progress.” “If he comes in ignorance, rags and wretchedness he conforms to the popular belief of his character, and in that character he is welcome; but if he shall come as a gentleman, a scholar and a statesman, he is hailed as a contradiction to the national faith concerning his race, and his coming is resented as impudence. In one case he may provoke contempt and derision, but in the other he is an affront to pride and provokes malice.” Frederick Douglass September 25, 1883 Rosa sat so Martin could walk; Martin walked so Obama & Lewis could run.

Ms. Whitehand, I now see you have posted in several places on September 22nd, 2012, how this forum was supposed to go as questions posed to all three candidates. This forum was started on September 5th, 17 days prior. As you can well see without proper supervision there are others that from the outset have abused this forum and are bad mouthing me though I have tried to do what is expected and answer queries as they came.. It is unfortunate that there was no earlier referee to monitor what has transpired since. I appreciate the forum but there are trolls on your site that have used this Patch Network to verbally incite hate instead of doing what was asked and that is to ask questions for the candidates to respond and give an answer to them. I have been the only participating candidate thus far. So that should account my good faith..
Marcus Lewis September 23, 2012 at 07:54 PM
Patch Editor, Why don't you host a Public Candidates Forum to ask the candidates questions about 2nd district topics?
Christopher Paicely (Editor) September 23, 2012 at 08:19 PM
Hello Mr. Lewis, While we won't be hosting a public forum, we hope to have you and Mr. Woodworth address some of these questions on camera. If you would like to set up a forum in for your South Suburbs voters, I would recommend contacting groups such as the League of Women Voters. They are much more versed and experienced with those types of events than we are. Thanks.
Marcus Lewis September 27, 2012 at 06:52 PM
I have contacted the League and they will hold a televised debate if Brian agrees. We'll see.
