President Preckwinkle Tours Government Investments in the Heights

Affordable housing, road improvements and job-building locations were the key themes of last Friday's tour.

Chicago Heights Mayor David Gonzalez met with Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle and top leadership from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Authority (HUD) to tour nearly $11 million of federal and county-funded local projects last Friday.

City housing rehabilitation, road construction and job-building were key themes of the tour, which was intended to illustrate a strategic partnership between the county and Chicago Heights.

“One of President Preckwinkle’s first objectives when taking office was to strengthen and expand the capacity of the County to engage in meaningful economic development,” according to a Cook County release. “This was accomplished through the consolidation of several disparate departments into a new Bureau of Economic Development (BED), focused on sustainable community investment, business growth and attraction, affordable housing and regional planning.”
