Rich 227 Anger, Dog Death, New Blogger: Bits of Info

One board member at District 227 is none too pleased with the handling of his agenda item.

Discontent at Rich 227

“She calls on people she agrees with, but if she doesn’t agree with that person, she doesn’t allow them to speak.”

That's what Dr. David E. Morgan, an outspoken member of the Rich High School District 227 Board of Education, had to say about board president Betty Owens.

Morgan said he was very unhappy with what transpired at the Aug. 16 meeting, noting that an agenda item he wanted to discuss with the board went without consideration.

Board members at Rich 227 have been at odds about several items over the past couple of years, but the battles have escalated since new members Shelia Hester-Whorton and Cheryl Coleman entered the mix, siding with Morgan on some of his concerns.

Tomorrow we'll be publishing a letter to the editor from Morgan, where he explains why he was unhappy Tuesday evening.

Dog Put Down

We got a news tip earlier this week that a Chicago Heights police officer responding to a "loud noise call" on Broadway Avenue shot a dog in the head late last week.

Police Chief Michael Camilli confirmed that an animal was put down by police, and that the owner of the dog is upset. He said the department is looking into whether the officer actually did anything wrong.

New Local Voice

I would like to welcome our newest Patch Local Voice to the mix. Trustee Wendell Mosby will begin writing for Chicago Heights Patch soon.

As a Heights native Wendell doesn't bite his tongue when it comes to the issues. We're definitely looking forward to hearing what he has to say.
