South Chicago Heights Hires Two New Firefighters

The village fire department saw two new additions Monday night, with help from the village clerk.

Two new firefighters were sworn in during the Feb. 21 South Chicago Heights Village Board meeting.

Nathaniel Roberts will serve as a part-time firefighter, and Stephanie Wallick will be on call. On-call firefighters are paid per call on a point system, which is calculated in part by time spent on the job, Fire Chief Larry Nardoni said.

Roberts and Wallick were sworn in by Village Clerk Catherine Linan. Roberts is a certified paramedic and completed the FF II program for firefighters at . He lives in Joliet and works fulltime for Kurtz Ambulance Service.

Walleck is in the process of obtaining her FF II certification and wanted to attend EMT-B school. She lives in Chicago Heights and began her fire service career with the Monee Fire Protection District in 2006. She is also employed at Wolf Camera as a lab technician.
