Three Chicago Heights Firefighters Promoted to New Roles

The three men have more than 54 years of experience between them, according to the City.

Three longtime Chicago Heights firefighters earned new titles this week, as they were promoted at City Hall in the council chambers.

Deputy City Clerk Rachel Vega commenced a swearing-in ceremony Monday morning at City Hall. The firefighters, who were recommended for promotion by Fire Chief James Angell and approved by the Chicago Heights Fire and Police Board, are listed below:

  • Wendell W. Thomas went from firefighter and paramedic to engineer.
  • Christopher Bednarek was promoted from engineer to lieutenant.
  • Michael Vittori was promoted from lieutenant to captain.

Combined, the three men have spent more than 54 years of fighting fires, preventing fires and providing emergency medical assistance, according to the City of Chicago Heights. Mayor David Gonzalez thanked them for their efforts at the promotion ceremony.
