German Firefighter Visits Prairie State College

Alexandra Nipko, a firefighter/paramedic with the Berlin Fire Department in Germany, recently participated in the Prairie State College Vehicle and Machinery Operations class as part of an exchange program to complete her degree in Rescue Engineering. Coursework emphasized equipment and techniques used in hazardous rescue operations. Nipko also is spending two semesters working with the Matteson Fire Department, focusing on fire suppression, emergency medical response, technical rescue procedures, hazardous materials incidents, fire inspections, and public education.
