Bloom Trail Students Get First-Hand History Lesson at Veterans Home

A trip to Manteno gave a Junior ROTC unit a chance to connect with veterans from three wars through a volunteering effort.

students, in the midst of learning basic military skills, were able to volunteer their way into a memorable day.

Thirty five cadets from the Bloom Trail NJROTC unit recently attended a veterans' picnic at the Manteno Veterans Home.

"The kids ran errands, helped veterans with games and served food at the event," said Bloom Trail NJROTC Cdr. Tim Crawford, adding that the kids were able to learn history "first-hand" from veterans that served in World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War.
