Gimme 5: Fagan Acts as Spartans' Energy Bar

Marian senior boys volleyball standout inspires teammates to play with a passion.

Connor Fagan is the spark the starts the high-energized Marian Catholic boys volleyball team.

When you watch the Spartans play, they show you how much fun they are having out on the court, and Fagan is the one individual who jumps up and down the most and gets the rest of the team to feed of his energy.

“I am pretty over-pumped and get real hyped for the game,” Fagan said.  “I yell and scream a lot and always try to pick everyone else up.”

Fagan started playing volleyball in eighth grade, thanks to teammate Jay Hochstetler.

“Jay and his mom really needed some players to play at their school," Fagan said. "After a lot of thinking, I decided to play and fell in love (with the game) right away and I have played ever since.”

Fagan will be attending Southern Illinois University in Carbondale and hopes to one day become a dentist. Along those lines, his favorite school subject is science, including botany, zoology and human anatomy.

Fagan has helped the Spartans turn their season around from a 0-5 start to now 10-10 and gives much credit to first-year head coach Bob Piekarski and his assistant Linda Wilson.

“They have helped develop players and our skills," Fagan said. "(We) all have gotten so much better since the beginning of the season.”

The Spartans already have surpassed last year’s win total of eight and Fagan hopes to help guide the team on an extended playoff run.
