Heights School Goes Hawaiian for the Holidays with 'Learning Luau'

Greenbriar School tried something different this December, and the principal says there's more to come.

Remember your childhood? How many of your Decembers were spent preparing for a Hawaiian luau?

The more than 100 students and family members at will be able to look back on at least one.

This past Tuesday, as part of Family Fun Night, the school held a Learning Luau for grades Kindergarten through fifth, in which they could participate in reading and math activities. Principal Joe Taylor was happy with the results.

"It was an enormous success!" exclaimed Taylor in an email. "There was Hawaiian music, punch, snacks and decorations.  After each activity students received a flower to add to their lei.  After four flowers the students received a raffle ticket which gave them a chance to win a new scooter."

But students weren't the only winners. Relatives of the kids also received a raffle ticket for a chance to win a gift certificate to be used at the local grocery Country Squire.

Taylor says the school is already working on planning its next Family Fun Night.

"We would like to have it sometime in late January," he said.
