Kennedy, Jefferson School Students Win Spelling Titles: Whiz Kids

Students from both schools took the top spots in the District 170 competition.

Student teams from Kennedy and Jefferson Schools won first place in grade-level contests in a Chicago Heights School District 170 spelling competition.

Kennedy School students were champions in both the sixth-eighth grade and the second-third grade divisions of the all-district contest.

Members of the Kennedy sixth-eighth grade team were Noe Martinez, Nick Vaughn and Daniel White, all in eighth grade; Rex Overall III, seventh grade, and Parker DeLoach, sixth grade.

Winning the first place trophy for Kennedy School in the second-third grade division were spelling team members Jennifer Chavez, Aniya Johnson, Trovante Patton and Dabreonna Valentine, all in third grade, and Elysse Bonds, second grade.

The Jefferson School team won the fourth-fifth grade division.  Jefferson’s team members were Irma Meza, Anabel Espinoza and David Ibarra, fifth grade, and Michelle Jones and Deanna Nila, fourth grade.
