Rich SD 227 Fires Former Girls Coach Who Wrote 'Offensive' Book

The Rich 227 Board of Education fired tenured teacher and guidance counselor Bryan Craig in a 6-0 vote Tuesday evening.

Rich Township School District 227 fired counselor and former varsity girls basketball coach Bryan Craig just weeks after his book, "It's Her Fault" sparked concern over portions encouraging promiscuity and oral sex.

In a press release from the district, Board President Betty Owens mentioned the book, saying it contained "offensive content regarding women and sex." Owens also shared her reasons for supporting Craig's firing:

Mr. Craig’s conduct in this matter fell far short of our expectations and evoked outrage for me, members of this Board and many others in our District who have come to expect the highest level of professionalism and sound judgment from the people they entrust with their children each day.

Craig had been on paid administrative leave since the end of August while the school district investigated. The press release cited Craig's book as the key factor in the investigation.

Patch published noteworthy excerpts from Craig's book in a previous article. Craig resigned from his position as girls basketball coach after Owens called it "distasteful" and "inappropriate."

I can't agree with believing that if and male and female teen come together and engage in intercourse that it's immediately the girl's fault. It takes both of them to agree on doing an irresponsible thing and even more so resulting in a pregnancy. The parents and the school system play a part in this act as well by not providing enough education and attention when noticing students of opposite sexes mingling too closely. Everyone's responsible.

The unresolved question that remains is; how did he get hired in the first place?
Tony Moriarty September 19, 2012 at 11:31 am
True enough, there may be a lot of responsibility to go around. But, when the girl is a minor by law the adult is always, always responsible. If this cannot be agreed to, education should never be one's choice of employment.

No kidding!

If he had time to write this book, when was he doing his job? Why is this male allowed to speak freely to students (majority females) just to encourage negative behavior. I am all for the 1st amendment but there is a time & place for all things. The school is the root of these problems... stop just cutting the leaves!!!!!

Just because you can do something; dosen't mean you should.. Brian Craig should be ashamed of himself. I kown he's not but he should be.
