Suspected Child Abduction Attempt Near Chicago Heights School

A note sent home with kids Monday details a possible attempted abduction over the weekend.

During all of the Sept. 11 events this past Sunday, three men sought an opportunity to pick up someone else's child, according to school officials and police.

Monday, Principal Joe Taylor sent a letter home with children alerting parents of the perceived abduction attempt.

A child on a bike near Greenbriar was approached by three men in a brown rusted out van that had an American flag in the window, Taylor said.

"The child was told by the driver that her mother asked him to pick her up because it was getting late," Taylor continued. "The child rode away on her bike and notified her parents and police."

Taylor advised parents to be on the lookout for any suspicious vehicles, and to let their kids know what to do if they ever ended up in such a situation.
