Analysis: Marian Catholic Girls Poised to Run Table

After a dominant performance Tuesday night, the Spartans look to finish their trek on top of the girls basketball heap.

The Marian Catholic girls basketball team had the ball bouncing its way all night on Tuesday at the Class 4A Providence Regional. There was a stretch in Marian's 95-34 victory over Lincoln-Way Central when the Spartans couldn't seem to miss a shot.

Four Marian players scored in double figures in a show of all-around balance and enormous offensive firepower. Future opponents can expect to see more of the same throughout the Spartans' playoff run. Sitting at 27-4 and ranked as one of the top five teams in the state, Marian has the potential to run the table.

Up next is a date with Providence in Thursday's regional final. The Celtics are a familiar foe. Marian had defeated Providence multiple times  over the last several years. Coach Annie Byrne is excited.

"Each team presents a different challenge," Byrne said. "With the unfortunate departure of Cassidy Glenn, we know that (Providence coach) Eileen Copenhaver will have to adjust. She's one heck of a coach. You have to be ready."

Marian Catholic is the top seed in the Lincoln-Way North Sectional. But the Spartans want to keep the ball bouncing their way much, much deeper into postseason play.
