Athlete of the Week: Bloom's Davis Making Big Strides

Blazing Trojans runner wins in 100- and 200-meter dash at the Bloom Invite.

Bloom Township’s Craig Davis is making a name for himself in the track and field world, and his recent performances only furthered his notoriety.

Davis competed in the Midwest Prep Invitational on April 16 in Indianapolis, at Manteno last Thursday and at the Bloom Invite this past Saturday, and he did well in all three meets.

In recognition of his performances, Davis has been named Patch's Athlete of the Week.

“I felt good, but I know I could have done better,” Davis said. “But then again, I was running in bad weather.”

At Lawrence Central High School in Indianapolis, Davis took second in the 100-meter dash and third in the 200-meter dash.

At Manteno he came in third place in the 400-meter dash.

On Saturday at Bloom, he was splendid, taking first in both the 100- and 200-meter dash and helping the 4 x 100 team take second place. His efforts helped Boom Township win the meet.

The meet included competitors from northwest Indiana, giving Davis some new faces to race against.

“Running against people I have never seen before kept me on my toes,” he said.

If Davis keeps improving as he has as the season has progressed, he will no doubt keep his opponents on their toes.
