Athlete of the Week: Marian's Guarino Wastes No Time Making Impact

Freshman forward Alec Guarino is living up to his own expectations this season, and he's helping the Spartans' boys soccer team make some noise.

Alec Guarino is just a freshman at , but that hasn't stopped him from coming up big on the soccer pitch for the Spartans. This past week, Guarino notched a goal in two of three games Marian played in the Lincoln Way North Invitational and helped lead the Spartans to a 2-0-1 record in pool play.

“I made the right run at the right time and then I just got the goal,” Guarino said after scoring his first goal of the week, against Plainfield South on Tuesday.

Though Guarino said playing with the upperclassmen on the varsity team is “cool,” he said earning a spot on the roster wasn't something that surprised him.

“I've played (soccer) for a long time, so I was kind of expecting (to make varsity),” he said.

While living up to the lofty expectations he has for himself, Guarino has helped the Spartans to a 6-2-2 mark on the season. If he can continue to find the right spot at the right time, there's no telling where this young Spartan can lead Marian this season and beyond.
