Boys Basketball: 3rd Time is Not a Charm for Bloom

Crete-Monee 52, Bloom 49. Trojans battle back, but can't overcome the Warriors in the third meeting between the two this season.

Hot Read: Bloom looked left for dead entering the fourth quarter of a 52-49  loss to Crete-Monee on Friday night in the Class 4A Crete-Monee Regional championship boys basketball game.  Trailing 43-30 and slowly watching the Warriors impose their will and increase their lead, it looked like just eight minutes were left in their season. However, the Blazing Trojans mounted a comeback that showed the crowd what March Madness is all about as they scored the game's next 10 points to pull within 43-40. The Warriors did not score their first points of the fourth until 2:18 was left in the game. Twice, the Blazing Trojans looked like they forced a jump ball, but both times the Warriors were able to get a timeout. The Blazing Trojans had one last desperation shot with 0.8 seconds left, but the shot was off the mark and the Warriors won their own regional.

Patch’s MVP: Donald Moore has been the leader for the Trojans all year and once again carried Bloom in its comeback. He finished with 15 points, including a 3-pointer early in the fourth quarter.

Key Stats: The Blazing Trojans' 10-0 run to start the fourth quarter led to the exciting finish. Their ability to get good looks at the basket and force turnovers during that span was something they had trouble doing the first three quarters.
