Boys Basketball: Bloom Headed to Class 4A State Semifinals

Bloom Township 53, Edwardsville 41: Donald Moore scored 15 points and powered the Blazing Trojans past the Tigers in the Class 4A Normal Supersectional on Tuesday night at Redbird Arena.

Moore, Bloom Township's 6-foot senior point guard, scored 15 points and led the Blazing Trojans to a 53-41 victory over Edwardsville in the Class 4A Normal Supersectional on Tuesday night at Redbird Arena.

Moore made 3-of-6 shots and 8-of-9 free throws as Bloom (28-3) advanced to the Class 4A state semifinals. The Blazing Trojans will face top-ranked Simeon at 8:15 p.m. on Friday at the Peoria Civic Center. Simeon defeated Evanston 59-34 in the Chicago State Supersectional.

Moore added six rebounds and five assists to his totals in a show of his all-around game. Johnny Griffin chipped in 13 points for Bloom Township on 5-of-7 shooting. He also grabbed six rebounds.

Lejavius Johnson and Dajahown Freeman each scored seven points for the Blazing Trojans. Johnson rained down two 3-pointers. Henry Hicks made 3-of-4 shots and totaled six points.

Bloom used a 19-7 second-quarter scoring spurt to pull away from Edwardsville. The Blazing Trojans led 29-14 at half and stretched the margin to a 20-point cushion with 2:46 remaining in the third quarter.

Edwardsville (24-6) was limited to 14-of-46 shooting (30.4 percent) as Bloom put on another display of powerful defense. The Tigers were led by Tre Harris and Garrett Covington. Both scored 16 points.

Harris made 5-of-10 shots, including two 3-pointers. Covington was harassed into 6-of-18 shooting. He also grabbed six rebounds and had two assists.
