Get Green During Earth Week at PSC

Prairie State College is celebrating Earth Week with a host of engaging and educational activities to teach students and the community about the importance of environmental sustainability from Monday, April 18, through Thursday, April 21.

Attendees can learn about new sustainability technology. Funk Linko Inc. will host a wind turbine model demonstration and the Bloom Township High School biodiesel bus will be on display from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Tuesday, April 19, in the Atrium and Front Circle, respectively.
         
Local entrepreneurs can learn basic sustainability principles and why businesses are increasingly introducing green policies at the "Greening Your Business" seminar from 10 a.m. to noon on Wednesday, April 20. Roosevelt University Prof. Mike Bryson will give a guest lecture titled "Sustainability in the Chicago Region: Nature, Education and Community" at 11 a.m. on April 20 at the Business and Community Education Center.
         
The Pioneer Café will serve Earth Week breakfast and lunch specials using organic and sustainable food items through the week, served on biodegradable plates and containers. The Library also will have a display of books on topics related to sustainability.
         
Other activities include a tire and paper recycling center, screenings of environmental films such as "An Inconvenient Truth" and "Earth Aid," carbon footprint tests, Earth Day IQ tests, eco-friendly product sales, daily raffles, healthy cooking demonstrations, a poetry contest, a tree-planting ceremony and more.
