Paralympic Athlete to Share Story and Wisdom at GSU

Actor, patient advocate, and Paralympic athlete John Siciliano will discuss his life-altering accident and the road to recovery and success at an appearance on Monday, April 11, at 11 a.m. in Sherman Hall at Governors State University.

After an accident in which his car was hit by a drunk driver, Siciliano’s right leg was amputated above the knee. He worked hard to excel as an athlete, receiving tremendous support from his physical therapist and prosthetist.

In 1996, he broke the 200-meter record at the Paralympic trials and was named to the U.S. Paralympic team.

For the past 14 years, Siciliano has been a national patient advocate. He travels the country speaking to healthcare professionals about prosthetics, and how important the team approach was to his success as a world-class athlete.

Siciliano has received numerous awards for his athletic achievements and work as patient advocate. As an actor, he has appeared in numerous movies and TV shows, including NCIS, ER, and Scrubs.
