Extra Points: Bloom's Roberson Gets it Done

Jeremy Roberson scored 10 points and grabbed seven rebounds in a performance that was the silver lining for the Trojans against Crete-Monee.

Jeremy Roberson transferred in to Bloom after first enrolling in the Chicago Public Schools. He came into the Blazing Trojans' boys basketball program knowing a lot about the game, but nothing about his teammates and faced an uphill battle getting acclimated to his new surroundings.

"(He's) been a pleasant surprise," Bloom coach Jasper Williams said following the Trojans' 58-39 loss to Crete-Monee on Friday nigth. "We've worked real hard to get him to this point. He was real raw, and we hope he can string a few good games for us in the (IHSA) tournament."

Roberson is listed at 6-3 and plays a center/forward position. He's not the biggest player on the floor, but he still casts an imposing figure. He scored 10 points and grabbed seven rebounds against Crete. And he was able to hold his own agains Crete-Monee's James Crockett and Greg Mays.

Roberson played previously at Chicago Robinson. He talked about his season and the adjustments he has made at Bloom.

"I've been ready to play for a while and came out with the energy," he said. "I wanted to play strong, play hard and try to get open. I boxed out and played strong to push for the ball."

Roberson is undecided on his college plans. He does, however, want to play basketball for as long as he can. For now, he'll try to help the Trojans regroup in time to make a run in the Class 4A playoffs.
