Extra Points: Matthews Could Get Playing Time Next Year at Bowling Green
Marian Catholic senior guard is being brought in as a shooter, and will look to contribute to Falcons right away.
There’s a lot to like about Bowling Green State University for Marian Catholic senior guard Jasmine Matthews.
Matthews will be a Falcon next year, and Marian Catholic coach Annie Basic-Byrne knows it’s the right fit for her.
“How could it not be (a good program for Matthews)?” Basic-Byrne asked. “Obviously, (head coach Curt Miller) runs a fantastic program. He’s bringing her in to be a shooter. She has a possibility of playing time as a freshman.”

Jasmine’s parents, Jerod and Genell Matthews, will be within driving distance of the campus.
“I think she gelled with the coaching staff and the team there,” Jasmine’s father, Jerod, said.

“We like the way the girls interact,” Jasmine’s mother, Genell, said. “It’s a good school.”
Jasmine didn’t have a hard time picking Bowling Green. “I think when I first went on a visit, I was like, ‘This is where I want to be,’” she said of the Falcon program, which is a six-time defending MAC champion.
Jasmine is excited about the physical therapy program the school has.
“All around it was a good fit for her,” Basic-Byrne said. “(Jasmine) is not somebody who’s afraid of going to a program that’s going to take a lot of hard work. She’ll thrive.”
Matthews was key for Marian Catholic Saturday night in the Spartans' , and is getting ready for Marian's big matchup with Fenwick on Tuesday.
A look ahead: Marian Catholic takes on Fenwick Tuesday for first place in the ESCC. “Come out and take care of the basketball, play with confidence,” Basic-Byrne said. “There are a lot of keys to the game.”
Basic-Byrne said another key will be to handle the Fenwick 2-3 zone, which will necessitate patience from the Spartans.
