Gimme 5: Smile is Ample Reward for Jones Memorial Community Center Director Roop

Cheryl Roop's hard work at Chicago Heights Community Center enables children to enjoy summer camp activities.

Cheryl Roop, the executive director of the Jones Memorial Community Center in Chicago Heights, likes to see the children that attend the center have fun.

She also likes to see them learn and hopefully develop skills that will benefit them in life. This week, Roop and 32 kids along with five other adults are in Saugatuck, Mich., for summer camp.

"They are learning all sorts of sports that they normally would not  learn here at the center," Roop said. "They do archery, canoeing, kayaking and hiking."

During the summer months, the center also offers a camp. Roop's greatest job comes from seeing the kids that take part in the center's activities.

One of the goals that Roop has for the upcoming year is to build a garden on the third floor of the building.
