Hot Shot: Rich Central's High Battles Through Low Point, Gains Nod as Athlete of Week

In her second year playing softball, Daivonya High looks to become Rich Central pitching ace.

If the mark of a champion is battling through adversity, Rich Central's Daivonya High is on her way to becoming something--and not just the ace of the Olympians' pitching staff.

High, a sophomore making her first varsity start on the pitching mound, settled down after experiencing a rocky start in Rich Central's 7-0 softball loss to Hillcrest on Friday afternoon. The Hawks (2-0) scored three runs in the first inning on four walks and five wild pitches/passed balls as High struggled to gain her composure.

But she settled down and started to build her confidence as the game moved on, and she is recognized for her courageous display today as the Patch Athlete of the Week. She didn't quit when the going got tough. She went the distance.
