Local Boxer Jackson Falls in National Semifinals

Chicago Heights Boxing Club's Martez Jackson comes up just short of reaching the finals in the U.S. National Championships at Colorado Springs.

Chicago Heights Boxing Club's Martez Jackson made it all the way to the semifinals of the 165-pound weight class of the U.S. Boxing National Championships before falling to Edgar Alvarado Jr. of San Bemadino, Calif., 16-14.

Jackson, originally from Valdosta, Ga.,  received a bye in the preliminary round of boxing at the nationals. Then, on Tuesday, he defeated Brandon Larvadain of Bloomfield Hills, Miss., 13-11 to advance to the quarterfinals.

On Wednesday, Jackson made his way to the semifinals after downing Damarius Russell of Camp Lejeune, N.C., 19-17.

Jackson was to meet Antoine Douglas of Burke, Va., for the consolation title.

Former Bull Craig Hodges Hosting Coaches Clinic

Park Forest native and former Bull and current Los Angeles Laker assistant coach Craig Hodges will be hosting a coaches clinic at Rich Central High School on Wednesday, July 6.  The cost is $150 per coach and $225 for a staff of up to four coaches.
