Marian Catholic Football Looking for a New Coach

Marian Catholic officials are conducting a search for a new football coach.

The Spartans have some big shoes to fill following Dave Mattio's retirement. He announced he was stepping down Sunday after spending 37 seasons as Marian Catholic's football coach and compiling a 251-141 record.

Mattio, an IHSA Football Coaches Association Hall of Famer, led the Spartans to the Class 4A state championship in 1993 and a to a runnerup finish in Class 5A in 1999. He will remain on staff in his position as athletic director.

Candidates to replace Mattio must have varsity high school coaching experience and a valid teaching certificate. A full-time staff position is negotiable with the football job.
