Marian Cross Country Teams Finding Stride at Midway Point of Season

Spartans boys and girls cross country teams hit the halfway mark of the year with positive showings at the Argo Invite and in an East Suburban Catholic Conference dual meet.

Marian Catholic's Camren Howard is beginning to hit his stride.

He was clocked in 16:44 for 2.9 miles to finish 25th and Matthew Lamb was 30th in 16:53, leading the Spartans to an 11th-place finish in the Argo Invitational on Saturday. The Spartans picked up points from Chris Merriman (18:00), Nathan Holley (18:24) and Noah Brim (18:42).

On the girls side, Angela Totos was timed in 20:28 for 2.97 miles on Tuesday, Sept. 20, at Midlothian Meadows to finish 39th as Marian Catholic placed ninth as a team in the ESCC pre-championship meet. Jacqueline Silverman took 61st with a time of 21:11 for the Spartans. Caitlin Henry (22:25), Helena Mierzwa (22:27) and Christina Moreno (22:59) rounded out the top times for Marian.

Girls Volleyball: Fryer Lifts Blazing Trojans

Bloom received a boost from Amber Fryer in the Blazing Trojans' 25-21, 25-22 victory over Rich Central on Thursday, Sept. 22. Fryer posted eight kills in the win, which pushed Bloom to 8-10.

Boys Soccer: Bloom Continues Rolling

Bloom Township notched a 5-1 victory over Rich South on the back of two Jorge Leon goals and two Romario Gutierrez assists. The Blazing Trojans improved to 10-2-3 overall and 2-1 in conference play on Thursday, Sept. 22.

Girls Tennis: Olympians Sweep Rich East

Rich Central swept sister school Rich East in girls tennis on Thursday, Sept. 22, going 5-0 against the Rockets at Rich East.

Boys Soccer: Spartans Fall to JCA

Do-it-all freshman Alec Guarino scored two goals for Marian Catholic, but it wasn't enough as the Spartans fell 3-2 to Joliet Catholic on Wednesday, Sept. 21. Spartans Nick Carollo and Dominic Guarino both had an assist in the game for Marian, which fell to 7-7-3 overall and 1-2 in conference play.
