Marian Goalie Green Second to None

Coach feels water polo star might be the state's very best goalkeeper.

Marian Catholic girls water polo coach Sean Scanlon knows he has a gem in goalkeeper Devin Green.

“I feel she is the best goalie in the state of Illinois,” Scanlon said.

The senior all-state goalie will be competing at Iona next year after getting an academic scholarship to the college.

“It is a freebie for the coach. He is getting an all-American goalie for free,” Scanlon said.

The Spartans will be seeded fifth in the upcoming Lincoln-Way North Sectional.

Marian Boys Volleyball Bounces Back

Marian Catholic’s boys volleyball team has gone from 0-5 to 10-10 on the season. The Spartans have built a lot of team chemistry with new coach Bob Piekarski.

“We win when we have fun, and right now we are having a lot of fun,” Will Craft said of the team’s recent success.

Marian Boys Tennis Serves Notice

Marian Catholic’s boys tennis team had a great week, beating conference rivals St. Patrick and Joliet Catholic, by 5-0 scores in both meets. No. 1 singles player Julian Childers and No. 2 singles player Josh Pinkus posted wins in both matches. 

The Spartans are 12-2 overall on the season and 4-1 in the East Suburban Catholic Conference. 

Lilek’s Blast Boosts Spartans Baseball

Marian Catholic’s baseball team broke out of its recent slump with a dramatic victory. After starting out the season 11-2, the Spartans dropped their next five games before defeating Benet Academy 3-2. Brett Lilek hit a two-run home run that proved to be the difference. The Spartans improved to 12-7 and 1-3 in ESCC play.

Clark, Gray Lift Spartans Softball Squad

Marian Catholic’s softball team pulled out a 2-1 win at Lockport on Thursday. With the game scoreless in the top of the sixth inning, Bri Clark knocked in two runs, which was just enough for pitcher Rebecca Gray. Gray went the distance, giving up one run on three hits while striking out seven. She improved to 9-3 on the season.

The Spartans improved to 11-4 overall and 3-0 in ESCC play.
