Kyle Clark, Dionte Pointer and Garrett Spivey will sign today to play baseball at Kentucky State University.

It will be quite an exciting next few days for three Rich Central baseball players.

Garrett Spivey, Kyle Clark and Dionte Pointer are coming off a 5-2 win over conference rival Bloom Township.

Today, all three will sign letter of intent to play baseball at Kentucky State University before heading to their prom. Then, on Sunday they will be graduating.

During Rich Central’s victory over Bloom Township on Thursday, Spivey and Clark played leading roles for the Olympians.

Spivey pitched a complete-game two-hitter. He did not allow an earned run. He also chipped in a hit and scored a run. Clark had two hits, stole a base, had an RBI and scored a run.

All three Rich Central players are excited to be extending their careers and look forward to what the college experience has to offer.

“I visited and thought it was very beautiful, and I am excited to play,” Spivey said. “I know I will get a lot of work done down there, and I just want to get better. As long as I get better and I see better competition, that's the main thing.”

Spivey and Clark are playing their best baseball of the season right now.

Spivey improved his pitching record to 4-0. That was all the more impressive considering he was pitching in temperatures approaching the upper 80s.

“That was quite an experience,” he said. “I was just adjusting. I kept focusing on every pitch, which was the main key.”

Rich Central coach Corey Stallings knows he can turn to Spivey and he will give him a quality outing most times he goes to the mound.

“He throws strikes and pounds the zone,” Stallings said.  “To eat innings like he did, that was huge.”

Clark has been on a tear at the plate, getting a hit in each of his last seven plate appearances.

“That is big for him,” Stallings said.

What is even bigger, though, is that these three student-athletes will receive a scholarship to grow not only as baseball players but also human beings.
