Rich Central's Collins Honored as Athlete of the Week

Highly touted senior second baseman Nick Collins put up big offensive numbers for the Olympians.

Nick Collins had a wonderful spring break.

He didn't go to a warm climate to enjoy his time off, but he definitely was swinging a red hot bat for Rich Central's baseball team.

In a win over Joliet Central on Tuesday, Collins went 4-for-4. He tripled, doubled, had two singles and drove in four runs. Then, on Thursday, he helped the Olympians sweep a doubleheader over Thornton Fractional North. Collins blasted a two-run homer in Game 2.

In recognition of his hot hitting, Collins has been named the Patch Athlete of the Week. He soon may grab another prize. He has been getting looks from many Division I schools, most notably Northern Illinois University.

Along with Brandon Fowler and Missouri signee Tyler House, the three Rich Central standouts are beginning to make quite a name for themselves not only at the top of the Olympians' batting order but around the area, too.

One can only imagine what Collins will do once the weather warms up.
