Watch: Rich Central, Crete-Monee Fans Stage 'Orange Out' at Volleyball Match

Fans from both Rich Central and Crete Monee decked themselves out in orange and helped raise money for leukemia awarenss and treatment on Thursday, Sept. 22.

Athletics took a back seat to caring for others on Thursday, Sept. 22, at . Against the Crete-Monee Warriors, the Olympians and their fans, along with fans from Crete-Monee, donned orange jerseys and T-shirts for an “Orange Out” volleyball match.

The match was part of an effort between the two schools to help raise money for the friend of a Crete-Monee coach. The friend's daughter is fighting leukemia.

Olympians coach Craig Marek said Rich Central originally planned to do a "Pink Out" promotion to raise breast cancer awareness. But, when he contacted Crete-Monee about the match, the idea for the “Orange Out” match was born.

“For taking the idea and putting it together real fast, everything worked out awesome,” Marek said. “The faculty, the students, a lot of people really bought in.”

Throughout the week, the two schools raised money buy buying T-shirts, donating funds and more. At Rich Central, the students had raised more than $400 for the cause by the time the match started.
