Senator Hutchinson Addresses Special Election

Senator Hutchinson Addresses Congressman Jackson's Resignation.

The Following is a Statement from State Senator Toi Hutchinson on the Special Election to Replace Congressman Jackson:

I want to thank Congressman Jackson for his past service.

As a long-time resident of the second Congressional District, where my husband and I have raised our three children, I believe we deserve a strong leader in Congress who will protect Social Security and Medicare and fight to bring new jobs.

Over the coming days, I’ll be speaking with my family, neighbors and community leaders, whom I’ve known and worked with for years, to explore a campaign for Congress.

In the State Senate, I’ve fought for our schools and to make our communities safer by preventing sexual assault.  And in Springfield, I’ve always led by example, cutting my own pay and benefits.

I’ll have more to say in the coming days.  I wish our families a happy Thanksgiving and pray for those who are fighting for our country abroad and can not celebrate at home.

Toi - another machine politician, cut from the same cloth as the others. Run for / get in office, make the right noises (rhetotric), meet the new boss, same as the old boss. Expect her to be sympathetic to constituents because of the over reach / mismanagement of government, back-breaking, freedom killing, life sapping taxes? Think again.
Just like Quinn with his Squeezy character strangling the life out of the state (taxpayers) Quinn tries to distance himself (and other Democrats) from the problems by making them look like a monster who crept out of a dark closet one night. - "Oh, dear, however did this all happen?!" and "Shared sacrifice, shared sacrifice!" Toi has big, oppresive, self- righteous govt written all over her, and not the wit nor inclination to act for the taxpayers as a whole.

So Hettie, why don't you identify which bill she sponsored (chief sponsor) in 2012 that deserves this generic endorsement?
Frankly you sound a bit like old Jackson supporters. No data to back up an opinion.
Dinkum November 24, 2012 at 03:17 am
Yep, it seems that way. Spent some time looking up her voting and bill sponsor record. The more things change, the more they stay the same. And D2 voters will check their brains at the door and punch "next Democrat" when the $1M special election runs.
AQW November 24, 2012 at 03:17 am
Kathy- Your rhetoric is beguiling and baseless. You have not spoken an ounce of fact about the topic. I agree, the state has to make some dramatic changes across the board, but the government can’t just start cutting taxes and not expect major drawback from important programs, some lifesaving. What do you suggest be done? Have you ever reached out to your elected officials, state, local or federal? It’s one thing to voice your opinion to others, but is very important to get involved with the process. What have you done to affect change in your district? All politics is local, I would start attending your local council meetings.
AQW November 24, 2012 at 03:22 am
Understood Moosia, when I sated that one should check the internet, I was referring to valid sources like the Illinois General Assembly. You can see what bills they sponsor. Only if you want to be more informed. Sure what people say is important however, I would like to think that what they do is more important.
NotBuyingIt November 24, 2012 at 03:33 am
oh man... yikes...
Kathy November 24, 2012 at 03:36 am
Oh, AQW, I am involved up to my ears! Have been for many years.
AQW November 24, 2012 at 03:44 am
Now come on Dinkum, we can not do all the work for you, see link below, there you will find a few bills that Senator Hutchinson sponsored. You must come up with your own talking points.

If you haven't even stood up to Madigan and Cullerton to do the right thing and fix the state's problems how will you ever stand up to Boehner and Paul Ryan? Another never passed the bar exam, quasicompetent hack looking for a bigger salary. Pathetic....
Juvenal November 24, 2012 at 01:36 pm
So does my Grandma. Doesn't mean she should be in congress......

You're a step behind me Q. See post to Kathy below at 10:17 PM on Friday, November 23. Yours is 10:44 PM. I already did my homework.
Now come on Q. Same homework for you. As chief sponsor, which 2012 bills show she is worthy of being elected? And FYI, the "Memorials" and "Days" don't count.
Dinkum November 24, 2012 at 03:25 pm
Well, AQW, apparently not in D2 since 100,000+ voters re-elected MIA Jackson. Maybe they are illiterate. Or maybe, to modify your line from a previous post, they voted for someone who "thought like them, looked like them, or talked like them".
It's clear we don't agree on much AQW but we do agree on this point. Anyone with 5 minutes and access to a computer (private or public) can review an elected officials record. What they sponsor and how they vote should carry the most weight when considering their performance and IF they should remain in office. The rest is noise.
Marcus Lewis November 25, 2012 at 02:17 pm

What is your plan to solve the state's fiscal and pension crises? You do have one, right? I mean why ask for a promotion until you have learned how to do the job you have?
Juvenal November 27, 2012 at 03:35 pm
Not much for constituent dialogue, eh? if you can't even keep up on a chat board how will you hold your own against Ryan, Boehner et al?
AQW November 27, 2012 at 06:13 pm
Your tough Juvenal. You asked a great question. I wonder what you would suggest. See, usually if I have a problem I become proactive and attempt to identify several solutions and present them to the person that can affect change....You should try that, I mean, if you really and truely care....As I am sure you know, anyone can give lip service but to show that you really want to see things done you should call him or his office directly and ask those questions or find ur candidate and back him or her....
Dinkum November 28, 2012 at 02:01 pm
Still waiting AQW for you to make the argument (based on her bill sponsor and voting record) she deserves to hold the D2 seat. Until we see it, and can review it, your endorsement of her is nothing more than "lip service".

Marcus Lewis, so how many votes do you think will come out for you this time. Hope you can Garner at least 3000 good signatures, you are not running against someone under investigations this time. This race is going to be very interesting, the combines are lining up.
Marcus Lewis December 3, 2012 at 12:19 pm
I am going to win to put it mildly.

Chicagoheightsmike December 3, 2012 at 01:07 pm
Well, Marcus you better make sure you have "Good Signatures", because you already know the combines will come out and challenge your petitions and spend money.
Juvenal December 4, 2012 at 03:26 am
Aqw, I asked my state senator what her plan is because she is in the general assembly. I'm happy to debate her proposal. She spends a lot of time on patch posting pablum, but none setting forth her plans or debating them.... She could at least ask John cullerton or mike madigan how she should answer.
James Bond December 4, 2012 at 12:57 pm
And Mike, Marcus Lewis is going to need over 15 Thousand good signatures to even get on the ballot this time. So I have a feeling we have seen the last of Mr. Marcus Lewis, "Vote for me and I will set you free". If you notice he has been extremely quiet.

AQW December 9, 2012 at 06:39 pm
Juvenal, you must have A1 credit....The US government credit rating has just been down graded....get over it....find something positive to say... Your making it easy for people to know that ur clearly not voting for her, and thats ur choice of course...But, it would be wise to state information that is important to the D2 Base...
Dinkum December 10, 2012 at 01:36 pm
It doesn't matter what Juvenal's credit is or if the US has been downgraded. Nice try at a red herring Q.
Take a look at the totals for those CC. Almost $13K in charges. And she had to be taken to court instead of working out the payment details with those two companies (which means she ignored them). In this day more companies do credit checks on employees before they hire them because that number reflects fiscal responsibility. But not the government or voters. This information, Q, is important.

State Senator Toi Hutchinson, you write, "In the State Senate, I’ve fought for our schools and to make our communities safer by preventing sexual assault." How in the world do YOU make our community safer by preventing sexual assaults?? I mean, do you actually run around and prevent them, super-hero style?? Through legislation?? I know the pen is mightier than the sword, but c'mon Toi, that's just a little too self-serving and disingenuous...
