Road Closures on US Route 30 in Chicago Heights, Olympia Fields Begin April 14

Drivers should expect delays, as the road will be reduced from three lanes in each direction, to two lanes in each direction.

The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) announced that weather permitting, an intersection improvement project on U.S. Route 30 at Western Avenue in Olympia Fields/Chicago Heights, will begin Monday, April 14.

Work will include pavement patching, curb and gutter, sidewalk and driveway removal and replacement, storm sewer installation, pavement markings and traffic signal modernization.

The project will be completed in four stages.  In order to complete the work, Western Avenue will be reduced from two lanes in each direction to one lane in each direction. U.S. Route 30 will be reduced from three lanes in each direction to two lanes in each direction.

The project has an estimated completion date of September 30.

Motorists can expect delays during times when the lane closures are in effect and should allow extra time for trips through this area. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to flaggers and signing in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits, and be on the alert for workers and equipment.
