A lengthy list of scandals regarding the Joint POW/MIA Accounting Command (JPAC) has now beenRead More publically exposed by NBC, CBS, NPR, Stars and Stripes, the Associated Press, and a host of other media investigative reports. Scathing official reports by multiple federal agencies painted efforts by JPAC as dysfunctional, duplicative, inefficient, wasteful and so poorly managed and led that JPAC simply could not do the job assigned to it. No matter how hard the JPAC Central Identification Laboratory (CIL) and JPAC management tried to spin the fact that only 385 identifications in seven years with an annual budget far exceeding $100 million was someone else’s fault, the American public and Congress refused to buy this hogwash. The JPAC CIL finally admitted that it takes them an average of ELEVEN YEARS to make an identification after remains are recovered. Investigations by the Department of Defense found 600 to 1,000 sets of American servicemen's remains in cardboard boxes in the JPAC Laboratory that the CIL is incapable of identifying because their methods are antiquated and obsolete. The American public and families of MIAs who accepted the smoke and mirrors from the JPAC public relations machine for years through fraud, phony “arrival home” ceremonies, and out right lies; feel angry, humiliated, and betrayed beyond belief. A large number of current and former employees of JPAC cooperated with these investigations because they are dismayed, disillusioned, disheartened, disgusted, and still disbelieving of what they experienced at JPAC. The Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Martin Dempsey, in congressional testimony, spoke for many of them when he called JPAC “disgraceful”. Despite being accused of being “vindictive” and “disgruntled”, many past and present employees braved severe retaliation by the JPAC management to come forward with the truth. There are many truly dedicated men and women who work at JPAC who believe in the mission. Researchers, military recovery specialists, and field investigators who hack through jungles, climb mountains, and wade rivers only to be sabotaged in their work by a completely dysfunctional command deserve great credit for their efforts to expose JPAC’s corrupt operation. In the final analysis, no one with any common sense whatsoever believed the excuses of the JPAC Laboratory Scientific Director and other members of the leadership clique at JPAC when their disgraceful actions became public. The Secretary of Defense finally ordered JPAC dissolved and the entire operation be “overhauled”. The changes are long overdue. Yet, even now, those who remain in command at JPAC continue to make excuses and are trying to keep their high paying jobs through their usual finger pointing, denials of responsibility, and boasts that they can “overhaul” their own severe dysfunction if Congress will just give them more millions. Bovine excrement. It is now incumbent upon the Secretary of Defense to ensure that his pledge to the American public for a "paradigm shift" away from "outdated, institutionalized thinking" at JPAC becomes a reality. Such needed massive reform cannot be accomplished by changing the name of the organization, re-shuffling the same poor managers to new desks and titles, and allowing those at fault for not keeping up with modern science such as DNA, to keep their jobs. To do so would only allow the same infectious disease of arrogance and lies to the families of American heroes to take root all over again. Everyone at any level of management and culpability in the many JPAC scandals must be removed. And removed now! The disaster at JPAC has been added to the VA Hospital, Dover Mortuary, Arlington Cemetery, and the Viet Nam Unknown debacles. We cannot allow it to happen again.

The area around it continues to thrive? Really? Here's just the large stores to be filled: The oldRead More Target, Best Buy, Circuit City, Borders, Michaels, JoAnn Fabrics, Dominick's, Cub Foods, TJ Maxx. Then there are all the small store fronts. There's the large strip between JC Penney and Target that was supposed to be filled with retailers. There is the underutilized space like the former Value City which now has some kind of store selling closeout merchandise. I don't think this is going to turn out well. Matteson is entirely unrealistic, the village website had petitions to bring stores like Whole Foods and DSW shoes. Consider that their only south suburban locations are in Orland Park, then you need to travel to the Oak Brook area or the South Loop for the next closest stores.

Here is why I can't wait for this "commander in grief' to be out of office. As head of theRead More military you would think he would hop in this problem and get it fixed. Instead he waits for someone other than himself to find the solution...like he is having an out of body experience and just looking in on the goings on. How hard would it be to implement that? Where the hell is that executive order pen he is so good with. I guess that would signal that his Obama care isn't going to work either. Bring jobs by encouraging new businesses, expanding existing ones, encourage R&D, internshipsRead More for students and teachers, give incentives for hiring, particularly the unemployed, encourage home ownership, energy conservation, incentives to get off the vices, like drugs. Convert firearms to ploughs and high tech tools, cars and robots. These will all add revenues and taxes, and we could go back to the good old days of 2 or 3% state income tax. Look at the states with zero state income tax: WA, TX, FL, Arizona, NM, Oegon and others: they are all pro-business, which means more jobs and sales/excise taxes. I hate going to Chicago to pay outrageous parking fees. No such problem in beautiful suburbs like Oakbrook. Bring more jobs to suburbs and the country side. Give incentives to farmers. Why are more ag businesses in Iowa, WI and MN than in IL? I want to start a business which in 3-5 years could add as many as 100 jobs. I went to my village: no incentives! The rising cost of college and choking student debt is an unnecessary tragedy because there are manyRead More good reasonably priced regionally accredited colleges. But, alas, cost is seldom considered. Instead, students justify expensive schools thinking they will earn more when they graduate. The New York Times recently reported on two studies which show that equally smart students earn the same whether they attend an expensive college or a less expensive college. Online learning should be considered by cost conscious students. Low cost options are available because online students can choose from thousands of regionally accredited colleges. To illustrate the affordability of online options consider that a Bachelor in Business Management from Western Governors University costs only $23,120. See Search results: http://www.degreesanywhere.com/Degrees.aspx?DegreeTypeId=2&FieldOfStudyId=2802#.UyMX4_ldV8E Or a BA in Liberal Arts from Thomas Edison State College costs only $22,800. See Search results: http://www.degreesanywhere.com/Degrees.aspx?DegreeTypeId=3&FieldOfStudyId=707#.UyMbOvldV8E All three colleges have regional accreditation so all are equal to expensive colleges in the eyes of most employers. The Federal funds have been cut back CONSIDERABLY since this bunch was in office. Pension is anRead More entitlement ? watching fox news again ? it's an EARNED payment that was invested into in the same back-breaking manner that someone puts into their 401-K monthly. If there's any "entitlements" we see going on here it's in Corporate Tax Breaks or I guess they call those entitlements "incentives". Pensioners are a part of "we the people" too. Would you rather have teachers, firefighters and police making "want fries with that" wages since public servants don't work "half as hard" as you ? is that what you are saying ? Have you ever saw a teacher work through a day ? enlighten me, Max. And before you bring him up, Adam Smith would be rolling in his grave at your approach, believe it.
