Patch asked for our readers' recommendations on the golf course with the best greens, and after two weeks of voting, Prestwick Country Club came out on top.
Local golfers' favorite courses have mastered the combination of greens speed, undulations, trueness of roll and firmness. You're looking for the course without ball divots, uneven green speeds and the dreaded dead patches. We asked for readers' picks of the best greens in the Southland, and after two weeks of voting, ladies and gentlemen, Patch has a winner. Our Patch readers say Prestwick Country Club has the most-loved greens in the area. The Frankfort country club offers greens one reader called, "manicured to perfection." The greens at Prestwick will make you cry. They are rolled to perfection. They break in ways that seem impossible. They are, by far, the best greens I have played. — Greg M. Prestwick CC has a GREAT course. Big trees…

The only one of these guys that did alot of ripping was Rick Santorum. Shame on him. Mitt is a gentleman and will make a better president than the community organizer. Cannot wait till he ( obama) is out! His ideas (Obama) take the independence right out of this Great Country which God has blessed and has put up with!!   more ›
You aren't able to hit the links as often as you would like, and there are just some courses you know to avoid because those drives? They get you every time. Which courses offer the most intimidating drives?
You're standing on the first tee. You didn't get in quite as many practice shots as you would have liked. Ahead, you see nothing but treelines and bunkers on both sides of the fairway. All you can hope is that the ball flies straight and you don't slice into a bunker or hook into the woods. When it comes to playing a round, golf courses in the Southland range in difficulty from "I got this," to "How in the heck...?" Your favorite courses offer the perfect mix of straight shots and tough doglegs, but Patch wants to know which course's drives leave you holding your breath after the ball leaves the tee? Which course offers the most intimidating drives around? Reviews count for half of the overall score in determining a winner. The reviews and…

If you're a Becca fan, send your vote for her way. If not, still vote for your Athlete of the Week.
It was a tough job, but somebody had to do it. Two Patch editors and a representative from Amato Salon and Spa name the top three entries in Patch's 'Mommy Needs a Makeover' contest.
Our Patch readers sure love their moms. We asked you to share what makes mom special, and many of you plucked at heartstrings across the Southland with your entries. After weeks of our 'Mommy Needs a Makeover' contest, the Patch panel of judges was left with the daunting task of choosing a grand prize winner. After much deliberation and a few "aww's", some sniffles and a bunch of tissues, the judges narrowed it down to the top three. 1st Place, Winner of a salon and spa package valued at $450, (courtesy of Amato Hair Design in Tinley Park): Kerry Nolan, on behalf of Mary Nolan Here's what Kerry had to say about her mom, Mary. The south suburban reaction to the president's endorsement of gay marriage sets off a wide-ranging debate on civil rights and religion.
In response to the South Suburban Patch network's Do You Support Gay Marriage? poll, several Patch commenters opened up a debate. Grunty, from Oak Lawn Patch, writes: "You can't make gay marriage illegal because it's a sin. ... What about the rest of the sins that are currently not illegal? Gluttony is a perfect example. If gay marriage is going to be illegal on the grounds of it being a sin, then it should be illegal to be overweight." Pat, from Homewood-Flossmoor Patch, writes: "I believe in small government. I believe government should stay out of our bedrooms and out of our decisions over our own bodies. I believe that without choice there is no freedom. I believe every person should have the right to choose." Bonnie Bell, from Oak …

Patch asked for our readers' recommendations on the best golf course to start a beginner, and after two weeks of voting, Silver Lake pulled away as the winner.
For golfers who are just getting started, the right course could get them hooked—and the wrong one could make them bury the clubs in the back of the garage. Our Patch readers know all the best fairways, the trickiest water holes and the best-kept greens. For newcomers to the game, playing a tough course can be as daunting as tracking the ball looking into the sun. They're looking for a challenge, but don't want to hold up the foursome behind them. So where should you take the inexperienced golfer in your group? Our readers say Silver Lake Country Club is the perfect place to play. Players can choose from three courses at the Orland Park country club, which snagged just under half of the total votes in our poll. Readers talked it up in …
