Police Blotter: Online Hook-Up Ends in Theft

Chicago Heights police blotter, May 7-9.

WEDNESDAY, MAY 9 A 41-year-old Gary, IN woman told police she met a 38-year-old Chicago Heights man on the Internet and had been talking to him for a couple of days. The man told the woman, via text message, that his mother had been rushed to the hospital and died shortly after, according to the report. The woman told police she went to the man's home to comfort him, at which time they sat in the car and talked before making a trip to Harold's Chicken and back to his residence. After the woman finally left, she noticed her wallet was missing, according to the report. TUESDAY, MAY 8 Ervin T. Police Chief Takes Part in Last Red and Blue Sunday Before Retirement

Chicago Miracle Temple Church took a day to pay tribute to the firefighters and police officers in Chicago Heights.

Gift bags waited on the platform at Chicago Miracle Temple Church in Chicago Heights. The congregation had spent the previous week filling the bags with small items as tokens of appreciation to the men and women who serve them as emergency responders. The church has been doing this since 1996, calling it "Red and Blue Sunday." For Chicago Heights Police Chief Michael Camilli, this will be the last he experiences as a cop. The chief will be hang up his badge at the end of June. "It's been 36 years," Camilli said. Camilli, along with Chicago Heights Fire Chief Jamie Angell, was presented with appreciation plaques from the Rev. William Anderson and his wife Cheryl, who is co-pastor. TINLEY PARK May 15: Federico Garcia, 34, of the 13900 block of Walter Drive in Midlothian,  was charged with improper lane use, driving under the influence of alcohol, illegal transportation of alcohol and driving without a valid driver's license. Police pulled over Garcia in the 16100 block of Harlem Avenue in Tinley Park after he was reportedly swerving in his lane, nearly striking other vehicles on the roadway. Police found a can of Modelo beer in the cup holder, according to the report. Garcia told them that was the only beer he'd drank that day but then failed field sobriety tests, police said. He refused to give a breath sample at the Tinley Park Police Department. Police: Mob Attacked Specific Group of People Inside Tinley Park Restaurant

Ten people were injured in the Saturday afternoon attack. Three were hospitalized.

Updated at 8:52 p.m. A group of ‘anti-facists’ are being credited with Saturday’s mob-style attack inside a Tinley Park restaurant. An anti-racist website posted a response to the Patch story "Police: Mob Attacked Specific Group of People Inside Tinley Park Restaurant." The post states that “a group of 30 anti-fascists descended” on the restaurant “where the 5th annual White Nationalist Economic Summit and Illinois White Nationalist Meet-and-Greet" was reportedly taking place. “These anti-fascists are committed to shutting down and attacking any racist, nationalist or fascist organizers or individuals that they encounter,” the post states. Chicago Heights Citgo Loses About $12,000 in Gasoline

Tampering with the pumps may have given some lucky customers the cheapest gas they've had in years.

A gas station in Chicago Heights lost nearly 3,000 gallons of gas after someone apparently tampered with the pumps and offered up better deals than $4 per gallon, according to police.  On May 5, a 33-year-old clerk at the Citgo at 590 West. 14th Street told police he noticed the fuel levels were low at the gas pumps. Knowing the station normally sells around 180 gallons per day, the clerk figured something was not right. Upon further investigation the clerk found five pumps has been broken into and tampered with the gas could be pumped without the clerk knowing, according to the police report. The station had no video surveillence during the time frame in question, which spanned from April 21 to May 5, according to police.  A witness told …

The doctor faces a misdemeanor battery charge that he fondled a 32-year-old woman with multiple sclerosis while she was in a semi-conscious state. A second woman has accused Prakash of forcing her to touch his penis while sitting in his car to discuss her medical case in a Starbucks parking lot in Oak Lawn last November. Ice Cream Seller in Stable Condition After Being Shot on Halsted Street

After being lured by three men, the vendor was shot in the abdominal area.

A 39-year-old Chicago man is hospitalized after being shot while selling ice cream out of a cart near the intersection of 12th and Halsted streets.  Just after 9 p.m. on May 14, Chicago Heights Police found Antonio Gomez lying on the ground, with a gunshot wound to his abdomen, in the first block of East 12th Street. Gomez told police he was walking up Halsted Street, pushing his cart and selling ice cream when three men called out to him. The vendor told police he thought the men wanted to buy ice cream, so he walked over to them. One of the men asked for ice cream. When Gomez opened the lid of his cart, one of the men pulled out a handgun, demanding Gomez hand over his money. Gomez told the man he did not have any money. That's when the …

They need to go back to old school patrol, on foot and bikes, instead of riding around in circles. It really is a shame people are not safe anymore, the neighborhood icecream man like back in the day, now people who don't care about themselves will not care about a human being. My suggestion is to let them fight in another country since thats all they want to do is walk around and shoot people.   more ›

TUESDAY, MAY 8 A 20-year-old Chicago Heights woman told police her ex-boyfriend was texting her to engage in unwanted conversation. The 33-year-old Chicago Heights man also posted nude photos of his ex on his Facebook profile, according to the report. Police saw three texts in the woman's phone from the ex, according to the report. SUNDAY, MAY 6 Lakenya Jones, 32, of the 300 block of West Holbrook Road was arrested and charged with domestic battery after her husband told police she struck him in the head several times with a closed fist, according to the report. County Shuts Down Swingers Club in Home Owned by Former Mokena Businessman

Will County has squashed a swingers club based out of a Beecher home owned by Mark Ferrari, former owner of now-defunct Mokena sports bar and restaurant The Colosseum, Chicago Tribune reports.

A swingers club operating out of the foreclosed home of a former Mokena business owner is no more, the Chicago Tribune reports. Police reportedly found a "dungeon room," sex swings and a mini-orgy room in "Club Erotica," inside the Beecher home owned by Mark Ferrari, once-owner of now-defunct The Colosseum in Mokena. Club Erotica, with the motto "If it feels good, do it," held themed sex parties with food and musical laser-light shows for about six months in the rural, cabin-style home, which was filled with taxidermied animals, records show.  Authorities shut down the club due to lack of proper permits, according to the report. Ronald C. Encinas, 38, is wanted on a possession of cannabis over 30 grams charge. His bail was set at $1,000. His last known address was in the 2600 block of Chicago Road in Chicago Heights. The warrant was issued Aug. 22, 2000. Mario Garcia, 51, is wanted on a driving under the influence of alcohol charge. His bail was set at $5,000. His last known address was in the first block of West Hickory Street in Chicago Heights. The warrant was issued Dec. 4, 2000.
