Chicago Heights Man Indicted on Charges of Child Sexual Abuse

A Chicago Heights man jailed on a $1 million bond was indicted for the alleged sexual abuse of a 3-year-old girl.

The indictment against a Chicago Heights man jailed on a $1 million bond for allegedly molesting a toddler was read in court Wednesday. Armando Serafin, 34, of 140 W. Hickory St. appeared at the Markham courthouse. A translator informed him what was going on during the brief hearing. Serafin has been in custody at the Cook County jail since Nov. 16. He allegedly molested a 3-year-old girl that his mother-in-law had been entrusted to babysit. The mother-in-law, whom Serafin lives with, has watched the child since she was a year old, according to the Cook County State's Attorney's Office. 8 Alleged Dolton Dogfighting Fans Make First Markham Court Appearance

The eight men charged with attending a dogfight in a Dolton warehouse went before a Cook County judge Tuesday.

The eight men scooped up in a raid on a dogfight at a Dolton warehouse appeared in court together Tuesday afternoon with one asking the judge to let him live among the animals on his parents' farm. Prosecutor Jack Costello refused to agree with the attorney for Anthony Fugate, 27, when she asked that her client be allowed to move back in with his parents on their Beecher farm. The attorney, Michelle Truesdale, told Judge Thomas J. Carroll that Fugate suffers from heart trouble and it is important he be permitted to return to his parents' farm. Costello argued that allowing an alleged animal abuser to reside among the horses and cats on the farm was akin to letting a man up on a weapons charge hang around his parents' gun shop, or an …

Man Charged in Girlfriend's Death Released on $2M Bail

A spokeswoman for the Cook County Sheriff's Office said George Kleopa, 33, of Chicago Heights was released Aug. 10 after posting a $200,000 bond.

A Chicago Heights man charged with the murder of his live-in girlfriend has been released on a $2 million bail, officials confirmed Tuesday, Aug. 14. Cook County prosecutors say George Kleopa, 33, fatally shot his girlfriend Michele Peters, 30, in the Chicago Heights home they shared with their two young sons in the early morning hours of March 6. Kleopa was given a $2 million D Bond in late July, which means he had to post 10 percent of it to be released. He posted a $200,000 bond and was released Aug. 10, a spokeswoman with the Cook County Sheriff's Office said. Peters was a former resident of Hometown.
