The former contestant on NBC's The Voice wowed the room with an a cappella rendition of "Ain't No Mountain High Enough."
De'Borah Garner, a Chicago Heights resident and former contestant on NBC's "The Voice," was honored in a big way at the Monday city council meeting. Mayor David Gonzalez presented the singer with a proclamation and a declaration that Jan. 7, 2013 would be known as De'Borah Garner Day. Garner graciously accepted the plaque, with her parents and other family members cheering in the council chambers. Garner thanked the city, saying she would always be "De'Borah from Chicago Heights." She then belted out an a cappella rendition of "Ain't Know Mountain High Enough" as city officials, Heights residents and business owners clapped. After the meeting Garner said she will release her single, titled "I'm Coming Out Looking Good," this month, adding…

The Heights resident turned heads and chairs as a standout contestant on NBC's singing competition, "The Voice."
De'Borah Garner may not have won on NBC's "The Voice," but she won the hearts of many of her fellow Chicago Heights residents. Garner, a Chicago Heights resident, made it into the live performances on the show, delivering powerful performances of The Fray's "You Found Me" and Train's "Soul Sister" along the way. Her last performance on the show was an energetic rendition of Pink's "Who Knew." In January, Chicago Heights will show Garner its support by presenting her with the key to the city at one of the city council meetings. The presentation was initially scheduled for the Dec. 17 council meeting but was rescheduled after Garner was called back to "The Voice," according to Chicago Heights Chief of Staff Lisa Aprati. After making it into the top 20 contestants, an energetic Wednesday-night performance did not get Garner into the final round.
Despite a passionate performance of Pink's "Who Knew" Wednesday night, Heights resident De'Borah Garner did not make it into the next live round of NBC's The Voice. After two days of performances from 20 contestants, The Voice unveiled its top 12 Thursday. Each team would go from five to three members, with the viewer votes selecting two members and the team coaches selecting the third. Dez Duron and Sylvia Yacoub were the Team Christina members with the most votes and Aguilera decided to push Adriana Louise into the next round, putting Garner and teammate Devyn DeLoera out of the competition. Garner was all smiles as she heard the results, congratulating her teammates and embracing Aguilera, who had words of encouragement for her whole …

After a lively performance of Pink's "Who Knew" impressed the judges, Garner's future on the show could be determined by the viewers.
De'Borah Garner turned heads again as she leaped around the stage, belting out lyrics from Pink's "Who Knew" Wednesday evening. The goal of the night was to either impress America or impress her coach, Christina Aguilera, as viewers will vote two people from each team into the next round and each coach will save a third. If Aguilera's reaction to Garner's wildly energetic performance is any indicator, the singer has at least made a lasting impression. Read about De'Borah's emotional experience on The Voice in a Patch interview with the singer. "You're just so real and so raw," said Aguilera. "No one on this show can do what you do on this stage. There's so much energy and I love, just the passion and heart that you put into it. You're the …

The knockout round on NBC's The Voice marked Heights resident De'Borah Garner's third appearance on the show. And it won't be her last. When coach Christina Aguilera pitted Garner against Lady Gaga back-up singer Chevonne, she said she wanted to see which of the two "could really bring the crowd to their feet." Garner passed the test. With an emotional take on The Fray's "You Found Me," Garner was able to win over her coach, despite an energetic performance of Billy Idol's "Dancing with Myself" from Chevonne. Garner explained her song choice before the performance. "I can really relate to the song," she said. "I've been through a lot in my life, and while I was getting really upset, God found me." "This is kind of funny," De'Borah Garner said in a phone interview. "The biggest connection I have with Chicago Heights is the bus routes. I know how to get anywhere." A Heights resident, Garner is arguably the most intriguing contestant on the third season of NBC's The Voice. She's been mistaken for a man because of her short hair, mannerisms and attire, and she announced to the world that she is gay for the first time—right before her blind audition on the show. Needless to say, the woman stands out. Check out Garner's blind audition and battle round performance. Last week, the 25-year-old singer shared her feelings about coming out on national television with Patch. "I had never mentioned the words 'I am gay' before," Garner said. "You …

De'Borah Garner also proclaimed her sexuality openly for the first time in front of the show's national audience.
The daughter of two Chicago pastors turned the biggest singing performance of her career into an even more life-changing moment. De'Borah Garner auditioned for NBC's singing competition, "The Voice," after her sister convinced her the show was made for her. The singer, who has been constantly judged based on her appearance in recent years, would be judged strictly for her talent. The show's format allows judges Adam Levine, CeeLo Green, Christina Aguilera and Blake Shelton to turn and face the auditioning singer only after they've already decided to add him or her to their respective team. Green and Aguilera both turned their chairs around, and Garner chose to join Aguilera's team. But that wasn't all she decided to do. Garner came out for…
