Accused Drunken Driver Nearly Crashes into Police

Abraham Ortiz was charged with a felony aggravated DUI after his near-collision with police on Jan. 10.

A Heights resident is facing a felony charges after endangering a police officer on Lincoln Highway last Thursday, according to the police report. Abraham Ortiz, 33, of the 200 block of W. 14th Street, was arrested and charged with aggravated driving under the influence of alcohol after he disregarded a traffic light and almost hit a police cruiser near the intersection of 14th Street and East End Avenue, according to the report.  Sign up for Chicago Heights breaking news alerts. Police stopped Ortiz and noticed he had bloodshot eyes and smelled of alcohol, according to the report.
