Marian Catholic to Host Chicago Heights Relay for Life Event

Marian Catholic High School will host an American Cancer Society Relay for Life event Friday, May 17 to May 18. The event has already raised more than $13,000 for cancer research.

The American Cancer Society is celebrating 100 years of saving lives through cancer research by hosting another event designed to help raise funds at Marian Catholic. The event takes place Friday, May 17, 7 p.m. to Saturday, May 18 at 6:30 a.m. The event already features 183 people registered to participate in the relay and more than $13,000 raised. “On May 22, the American Cancer Society celebrates 100 years of saving lives from cancer and creating a world with more birthdays. DePaul Picks Up Marian Catholic High Scorer

DePaul University in Chicago recruited Marian Catholic’s Ashton Millender to play as a Blue Demon next school year.

Marian Catholic junior Ashton Millender recently committed to DePaul University in Chicago, reports Sun-Times Media. Millender, a top scorer for Marian Catholic, largely contributed to Marian’s Class 4A state victory last year. Marian Catholic Band Earns State Award

The talented young musicians are building a history of success for themselves on a state-wide level after yet another award.

The Marian Catholic High School Concert Band has every reason to toot its own horns.  They recently received the distinction of Honor Band—the top award at the May 3 SuperState Band Contest at the University of Illinois. 61 Marian Catholic Students Honored for Perfect GPAs

Marian Catholic High School honored 61 sophomores, juniors and seniors for achieving GPAs of 4.0 during all semesters at the school. The students were honored during the school's Academic Breakfast on April 25.

Marian Catholic High School announced that 61 of the school’s students in the sophomore, junior and senior classes earned a perfect 4.0 Grade Point Average, or higher, during all semesters at Marian. The 61 students were honored by the school during annual Academic Breakfast on Thursday, April 25. The seniors who were recognized were: Claire Bessette, Edith Boiquaye, Katlynn Dee, Elizabeth Frabotta, Kareem Johnson, Marisol Juarez, Hannah Lang, Tim LaVelle, Fauve Liggans-Hubbard, Christopher Merriman, Ryan Paige, Katherine Reichart, James Spain and Bree Veazey. Marian Diver Heads to Nationals

Marian sophomore Joe Cifelli earned his way to the U.S. National Diving Completion in San Antonio, Texas. Cifelli will compete with 30 of the best divers in the U.S. in the 16- to 18-year-old age group.

After just over a year of competitive diving experience, Marian Catholic High School sophomore Joe Cifelli is ready to make waves in the national diving scene. Cifelli, 15, earned the spot at nationals after winning his division at the regional level earlier this year. “I'm nervous but, I'm excited, too" Cifelli said. "This is a going to be the best competition I've seen." Cifelli said that he got into diving several years ago, as a way to pass the time and only really began competing in high school. He said that since Marian doesn't have a men's swim team, he only competes in three events each season: The H-F Invite, the IHSA Sectional meet and, if he qualifies, the State meet. “I decided to start diving for fun, but I've really only …

Marian Theater Department Announces 'Beauty and the Beast' Cast, Show Dates

The Marian Catholic High School Theater Department announced that the school's spring musical will be 'Beauty and the Beast.' The musical will have three shows over the weekend of April 19-21.

The Marian Catholic High School Theater Department announced the cast and dates for its spring musical, 'Beauty and the Beast,' which will run April 19 to 21 in the Monsignor Croarkin Auditorium, 700 Ashland Avenue. The cast of the musical features students from every grade level performing the 'tale as old as time,' as inspired by the Academy Award-winning animated feature of the same name. Headlining the cast will be seniors Hannah Lang, of Monee, and Kyle Fitzgerald, of Park Forest, as Belle and Beast, respectively. Steve Daw, of Homewood, will portray Gaston, the potential love interest of Belle and rival to Beast. Marian Catholic Wins First-Ever Girls Basketball State Title

A buzzer beater put the Spartans ahead for a 48-47 win over Rolling Meadows.

The Marian Catholic Spartans girls basketball team went into the state championship game with a chip on its shoulder—looking to avenge its lone loss of the regular season against contender Rolling Meadows. The outcome was different this time around. The Spartans took down Rolling Meadows 48-47 with a buzzer beater, for their first state title, ever.  The girls returned to the Heights yesterday, escorted by the fire department and with a giant trophy in tow. “It’s a dream come true,” winning point scorer Kauai Bradley, told Sun-Times Media. Marian Catholic Speech Team Finishes Third at IHSA State Finals

Senior Tiffany Pia Lyander was crowned state champion in poetry reading.

The Marian Catholic Speech Team finished in third place at the IHSA State Finals in Peoria on Saturday. Senior Tiffany Pia Lyander (Hazel Crest) won first place in Poetry Reading. After a successful season, winning first place at both the IHSA Regional tournament and IHSA Sectional tournament, the Marian Catholic Speech Team was proud to earn a third-place trophy at the State competition. “I was pretty shocked when I heard my name announced,” admitted Lyander, the humble state champion. “This year the entire team really came together as a unit.  The third-place win took every member of our team.” Lyander is a dynamic member of the speech and theater department at Marian Catholic. The Marian Catholic High School Community will celebrate the achievements of six remarkable Hall of Fame Awardees on Thursday, February 7, 2013 at Olympia Fields Country Club.
