Obama referred to Kelly as a "tireless champion" of the people in a statement endorsing the 2nd District candidate.
President Barack Obama is endorsing 2nd District candidate Robin Kelly in the race to fill the vacated seat of defamed former Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. According to Obama, like-minded partners such as Kelly are needed in the House of Representatives to help “continue moving America forward.” “Robin is a tireless champion for building small businesses, supporting middle-class families, protecting our seniors, improving transportation and expanding access to health care,” President Obama said. “I share Robin’s passionate advocacy to end gun violence with common sense solutions because like her, I believe families impacted by gun violence—especially in my home city of Chicago—deserve a vote.” In a statement by Kelly, she refers to President …

The state might take a crippling hit if congress does not act before Friday.
Deep, nationwide cuts are geared to take place March 1. They're the first of a decade-long $1.2 trillon budget cut plan poised to go into effect unless Congress can compromise on a deficit-reduction plan. Here’s what Illinois stands to lose, according to the White House:

The decision whether to allow gays in the scouts has been held for about three months, as the organization faces strong pressure from people for and against gay membership.
Update: The Boy Scouts of America announced Wednesday that they will not make an official vote on its position on gay members until May. One year after reaffirming its stance against gay membership, the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) will vote this week on whether to lift the ban, the Chicago Tribune reports. The BSA board is convening at the organization’s headquarters in Texas to discuss the controversial decision, reports say. The board has said it will consider lifting the national restriction against gay membership, instead leaving the call up to local troop leaders. A Wednesday vote will determine how the group proceeds, but there’s already plenty of influence on both sides of the fence. On Sunday, President Barack Obama strongly voiced…

In just a couple hours, four truckloads of barricades will ship from AAA Rental in Markham to Washington D.C. for the Jan. 21 Presidential Inauguration.
President Obama isn’t the only South Chicago representative attending the inauguration ceremony next Monday. Sometime Friday afternoon, four trucks filled with 2000 barricades from AAA Rental in Markham will depart for Washington D.C. to help build the perimeter for the parade route from the Capitol Building to the White House. This is the fourth presidential inauguration AAA Rental has been involved with, according to owner Jay Heiferman of Homewood. He says this is the largest inaugural order his company’s had to date. The South Suburban rental company is also involved in Chicago’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, Bud Billiken Parade and Pride Parade, among many other large-scale events. The president captured his home state in Tuesday's election, but how did he fare in the Cook County precincts that cover the city?
After winning 18 out of 19 voting precincts that cover the city, President Barack Obama was the clear choice of the majority of Chicago Heights voters in Tuesday's election, according to data released Wednesday from the county clerk's office. READ: The Race for President—How Illinois Voted The re-elected president had 8,142 votes at Heights precincts compared to Republican challenger Mitt Romney's 2,403, according to the numbers reported by the Cook County Clerk's Office. In fact, the only Heights precinct Romney won was at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, where he beat out Obama by just three votes. The Facebook crowd had plenty to say about the president and the governor this past week. They also had a pretty neat suggestion for the coolest place in the Heights.
President Barack Obama and Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney went head-to-head in their second debate last week, and as usual there were plenty of utterances of "that's not true" and "good question." I decided to post a couple of quotes from the debate as it was in progress, the first being from Romney: "Trade. I'm gonna crack down on China. President Bush didn't." Monica SanMiguel responded, "Obama rightly points out that Romney is MUCH more conservative than George W. Bush ever was, especially on social issues. On economic issues, Bush and Romney are on par in hurting the middle class." Then I posted the following quote from Obama: "Governor, you're the last person that's going to crack down on China." The first comment was from Jared …

We need to make cuts almost everywhere, there is too much waste almost everywhere. The only reason I made the comment about the abuse of the welfare system is because I've witnessed so much of it personally, that's all. When I go to the donut shop and the liquor store and see "link card accepted here" signs up, it kind of concerns me that this may not be the kind of "food" that these people …   more ›
