One judge believes many voters are unaware of how important the primary elections can be for some offices.
Visiting the polls to see what voters have to say about the candidates can be quite a task with no voters in sight. Many locations were practically empty if not for the group of election judges overseeing each precinct. Kimberly Beatty, a longtime judge in the Chicago Heights area, said she is surprised at how low the turnout has been at Fire Station No. 3 on Joe Orr Road, which had a grand total of 62 voters as of 1:15 p.m. But Beatty said she's heard worst than she's seen. "I've heard from (Cook) County that some of the other precincts were still in the single digits as of about 10 a.m.," Beatty said. Second Congressional District Primary challenger Debbie Halvorson and volunteers rallied Sunday, where she spoke on several claims by U.S. Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr.
Just as early voting starts, 2nd Congressional District Primary challenger Debbie Halvorson and her volunteers rallied Sunday at her Homewood office to get out the vote and drum up more support for her campaign. Halvorson is vying for U.S. Rep. Jesse Jackson, Jr.’s seat and insists that while planning for his Peotone airport project, Jackson didn’t consider the opinion of all Southland mayors. She questioned Jackson's ability to get things done, after he touted his efforts at an open forum hosted by Team HOPE and the Democratic Women of the South Suburbs in Hazel Crest. Hi Bob, Unfortunately, only the candidates that agree to be interviewed can be interviewed. I sent out notifications to every candidate I could get contact information for. Not all of them responded.
