A Harvey man faces two felony and nine misdemeanor charges after police found eight neglected dogs in his home.
A group of abused dogs are now in the care of the South Suburban Humane Society following a court-ordered eviction in Harvey, according to a press release from the Cook County Sheriff’s Office. Police discovered seven pit bulls and one Chihuahua while evicting 37-year-old William Roberson from his Harvey home on the 50 block of West 151st Street. One of the pit bulls was dead while two others were found emaciated—one with a leg injury and the other locked in a crate outside. The other dogs are in comparatively better condition, police say. There is no indication the dogs were involved in fights. Roberson was charged with the following: He is scheduled to appear in bond court on Friday, May 10.
This week’s featured pet is Blondie, a small two-year old pit bull.
Meet Blondie. No, it’s not Debbie Harry. Rather, a smaller-sized two-year-old pit bull terrier mix with a lot of love to give. This pretty baby has had a fairly rough past, so she’ll have to be the only pet in the house, but the folks at South Suburban Humane Society say she’s a playful and energetic pup. Perfect for a home with teenagers. You check out the South Suburban Humane Society website for more info on Blondie and other pets available for adoption.

This Shar Pei and Labrador mix is eager to go home with a loving new family.
Meet, Minkus. He’s a little guy—not even one year old—and part of a litter of eight. Now, he’s looking for his new forever home. The Shar Pei and Labrador mix was raised around other dogs, cats and older kids—so he should be pretty well tempered. With a lot of love and a little bit of training, this pup’s got potential. Check out his listing on the South Suburban Humane Society website. Want to talk about this? Head over to Chicago Heights Patch Facebook.

This week’s featured pet is a Dachshund named Latte.
Meet Latte. He’s a five-year-old chocolate colored Dachshund with an easygoing personality. Latte seems to get along well with other small dogs, but has some issues with stairs—so a ranch might be best for him. If you’re interested in learning more about Latte, check out his profile on the South Suburban Humane Society adoption page. We want to hear about your adopted pets. This week's featured pet is Lorenzo, one of the dogs rescued from a Dolton dog fight last December.
Meet Lorenzo. He was rescued from a Dolton warehouse after a police raid last December. Sadly, he lost his right eye in a dog fight before police took him to the protective care of the South Suburban Humane Society (SSHS). Despite a rough past, Lorenzo now has a second chance. Lorenzo loves people but, because of his upbringing, it would be best if he was the only animal in the house. If you want to help give a desserving dog another chance at a better life, check out his listing on the SSHS website. Get in on the conversation. Join Patch today.

Meet Casey. As far as shelter pets go, he's on the older end of the spectrum. This week's featured pet is a one-year-old black lab and pit bill mix named Judy Bloom.
Meet Judy Bloom, the dog. This one and one-half year old black lab and pit bull mix was originally adopted from SSHS as a puppy but her owners couldn’t take care of her anymore and had to return her. Judy Bloom is very affectionate and maintains a very clean living space. She gets along well with other dogs and would love for someone to rub her soft, velvety ears while snuggling. If you’d like to learn more about Judy Bloom, check out her listing on South Suburban Humane Society site. PLEASE VISIT SSHS IN OUR PATCH PLACES DIRECTORY

This week’s featured pet is Paris, a five year old American Bulldog.

Paris would love to get some attention and a slightly healthier lifestyle and she’d definitely pay the love back with plenty of slobbery kisses. Want to learn more about Paris? This one-year-old pup just wants to have fun.
Meet Ebenezer, He's a playful Brussels Griffon mix and he's extremely friendly. Whether it's people or fellow dogs, Ebenezer seems to love everybody. Friends believe adopted shelter dog was sent by late hushand to comfort and guard over family.
Tragedy struck the household of Flossmoor resident Vicki Burke in late October when her 40-year-old husband, Steve, died unexpectedly. The sudden passing left her and her two sons, Andrew, 8, and Ryan, 4, with broken hearts and a big, empty space where their husband and father used to be. “After Steve died, I thought about getting a dog. A dog was never an option when Steve was here—he was horribly allergic. I looked at the listings (online) and nothing really called to me." That’s largely because all of Burke’s former pets came to her serendipitously she says, citing an experience in her youth when a stranger thrust a puppy into her hands, got into her car and sped off. Because of this, Burke resolved that fate would bring her a dog if it…
