Football: 2013 Marian Catholic Spartans Schedule Released

Marian Catholic had a down year in 2012-13, going 1-8 and missing the IHSA playoffs. However, there's a new head coach patrolling the sidelines and a new season around the corner. Today, Patch takes a look at the Spartans 2013-14 schedule.

Snap up those chinstraps, football season is just around right end (corner for you non-football fans) and the IHSA recently released the Marian Catholic Spartans’ 2013-14 football schedule. The Spartans, members of the East Suburban Catholic Conference, went 1-8 last year and did not qualify for the IHSA playoffs.

This season the Spartans look to hit the ground running with new head coach Jerry Verde, who is coming off a State Championship season at Crete-Monee High School. Verde and his charges open the season with a three game homestand against non-conference foes Hyde Park and Shepard high schools, before their conference opener against Carmel High School in week three.

The Spartans stiffest test of the season could come during week five of the season, when Benet Academy, which made the IHSA playoff quarterfinals last year, comes to Chicago Heights on Sept. 27.
